Who's the last linebacker from OSU to come into the league and be any good?
Stay far away from their LB's

I'm inclined to believe that the 40 times this year are more or less bullshite
Freeman is an example... you said in the OP he ran a 4.5.. but the combine added a quarter second
Jenkins ran a 4.54 but he's been clocked at 4.3
Beanie shaved a second off when he ran for pro day
Everybody had shitty times at the combine... no way Harvin is a 4.41. No way Pat White runs a 4.55

That Morris Wooten is a burner

when was he timed at 4.3?
yes OSU does has a very fast track, and freeman's 4.51 becomes a 4.71 when you add in this
but jenkins ran in the 4.5s at OSU's pro day. so add in 0.2 for him and you get

this is not a good draft clas

no way Harvin is a 4.41. No way Pat White runs a 4.55
the times this year really didn't improve at pro days much more than the standard 0.1
maclin ran a 4.43 and 4.47 at his pro day
harvin kept his 4.41 from the combine and didn't even run at UF's pro day

he's decent, but he's been a let down based on his draft status and hype.
I only pose the question, because this same question was posed to Laurinitis by a scout during the combine interviews. The scout listed about 4-5 LB's from OSU that were supposed to be great but were busts, and Hawk was one he listed, and he then asked Laurinitis why he deserves to be a first round pick.
I will try to find this article and post it. It was a Peter King MMQB piece where I read it.
But it's an interesting point. For some reason, OSU LB's haven't translated to NFL play the last few years.
Not sure if it means anything, but it's something to consider.

no idea
but if people pay you to review players, you don't say a guy has "outstanding speed and quickness" when he runs a 4.54

Fourth year as a starter in 2008 ... the leading contender for the Thorpe Award ... first-team all-Big Ten as a sophomore and junior ... usually plays on the wide side of the field but often moves around the field to cover the opponent’s best receiver ... is a natural corner with great instincts and outstanding speed and quickness ... excels at man-to-man coverage ... has been timed at 4.3 in the 40-yard dash.
wait.....what????????
but...but...but, I though he is slow and unathletic and only good enough for the Tampa 2 zone

remember the bolded times are at the SUPER fast OSU track that helped freeman shave 0.2 off his 40 (which is about the normal adjustment for OSU pro days - see freeman and wells this year, aj hawk a couple years ago, etc)
quote:
Jenkins, who is being looked at as a safety as well as a cornerback due to slow times in the 40, tried to improve on his 40 numbers at the pro day, but was unsuccessful. He turned in times of 4.58 and 4.55 in Columbus after running between 4.52 and 4.58 at the NFL combine in Indianapolis

if you're playing against shite speed in the big10, your 4.55 seems fast against a 4.7

he might have blown it off, who knows
or maybe he's faster in pads than the average player

dude
if you're a CB and you run like an OLB at the combine, you don't "blow off" your pro day

his domination against inferior big10 competition did not show up when OSU played UF, LSU, or USC

Well, I guess you should work for Scout since you obviously know more than they do.

this does happen
i don't expect a guy like marcus freeman to be our savior, but i don't know if there are any other OLBs worth a shite other than mcgrath or w/e

I think Freeman would be a good fit for a zone type defense. He would be a pretty good value pick taken mid-late third round.
And yes OSU doesn't know how to properly use a stopwatch

I'm saying I don't know. He's fast by several accounts. Lots of people had garbage 40 times this year. I've never been a fan of using 40 times as the end-all-be-all measure of NFL success anyway
He won the Thorpe Award this year. He was mocked around #15 last year (and last year was a much better draft class than this year). The Saints organization obviously thinks very highly of him as they're not even hinting a move to safety for him.
Something's gotta give.. I'm inclined to believe the combine and pro-day numbers don't tell the whole story
