At it's essence this suit was filed because the Plaintiffs, fans and ticket holders of an athletic event disagree with the outcome of that game. The NFL lawyers argue.

The Plaintiffs ,fans and ticket holders disagree with the officials non call which directly affected the outcome of the game I suspect the Attorneys had good reason to leave out that little tid bit.

Then what happens next SHOULD be obvious: the officials in question should be fired for incompetence.

But that won’t happen. And to me, that’s the biggest tell that this was a setup. You fire those guys, they’re liable to talk.

"Because the officials on the field are humans, like the players and coaches, errors will happen," the league's lawyers wrote. "The NFL parties do not dispute that they have previously advised the Saints, including the club’s head coach, that one or more penalties — for pass interference or illegal helmet-to-helmet contact — were mistakenly not called late in the NFC Championship Game, and that the NFL would like its officials on the field to make these calls.

This is the problem these days with society. There is no accountability by anyone. Oops it was a horrendously bad call better luck next time. It's no ones fault mistakes happen. If I screwed up in my job that bad I'd be kicking rocks. If these officials are not fired for incompetence the league might as well admit that the game is rigged.

I had been done with the NFL for a few years following many silly rule changes that have taken alot of fun out of the game. But with the saints run this year I came back and gave it a chance. But I'm over it. College is the only football worth watching anymore.

I’m surprised they found a firm there willing to take that case.

If present with enough money, most posters on here would turn on the Saints too

Expose the firm. Let the public know the scum they are while doing business in NOLA and representing the NFL. They may not like the negative press they get for this. Wait they did : New Orleans law firm Jones, Swanson, Huddell & Garrison LINK /

This is ridiculous. Why are ya’ll mad at the lawyers? It is their jobs, that’s how they support their families.

NFL just doing a CYA. courts should not throw out the suit. Fans and players have a legit reason to sue. A blatant PI was missed and it caused players to lose bonuses, prevented an economic boost to New Orleans, and many other things.

It's one thing when a play that could have easily been missed doesn't get called. Kinda like the facemask on Goff (even though you can argue that a flag shouldn't have even been thrown) It is completely different when a ref misses a PI and helmet to helmet hit which would have basically won us the game. We can't let the NFL get away with a mere slap on the wrist from the media. The NFL needs to pay for this in some way, a civil suit would be a nice penalty for the NFL.

you know you can get sued for an error even if you didn't intend to make it?

It's like saying to the cop who pulled you over for speeding. Sorry officer I thought the speed limit was 70 in the city, not 35, it's an honest mistake don't give me a ticket. Just because you made an error in knowing the speed limit doesn't let you off the hook. The same should be true for the NFL.

In its brief, the league also argues that Goodell does not have authority to order that all or part of the game be replayed, as some had speculated. The league requests that a U.S. District Court judge throw out the lawsuit because "this kind of dispute implicates no legally cognizable rights."

THEN

1. Throw out rule 17.

2. "this kind of dispute implicates no legally cognizable rights"??? Tampering with a game's outcome is illegal if proven to be fact. There's my $.02 worth and I'm pretty smart too.

I’m confused I thought League already admitted that to CSP..what did I miss..nothing new or newsworthy here really.

I’m more interested to hear justification from Goodell for 4 so cal refs being allowed to officiate NFC championship game.

Honest question. Do you think what happened was an honest mistake by the officials?

That right there is why this suit may actually go somewhere. This opens up the league and the officials to having every embarrassing thing ever put in a text message or email coming to light. It won't change the fact that the rams will be in the super bowl but maybe some noticeable changes will come from this. And if the officials are fired and anyone else responsible is axed, maybe the NFL will have some kind of credibility as a sport again, and not just some over-hyped entertainment show.

I would be happy that in the event the Rams were to win, A huge asterisk be engraved right beside the Team name.
Also, in the NFL HOF , that There be an explanation of the asterisk in big bold letters lest anyone forget.
