Kenny Stills Year Two

Last year, as a rookie, Stills had 32 receptions for 641 yards and 5 TDs. He ran a 4.32 at the combine and led the NFL in ypc.
That was as a rookie.
I think that Stills makes a HUGE leap forward in year two. That is where you see a big improvement for WRs.
Add in Cooks, and the Saints have some serious speed at WR again to go along with Colston and Graham.
Projections for Stills?
I think that we will see 70 catches, 1100 yards, and 10 TDs from him.
Thoughts?

I would guess his numbers to be around 50 receptions 900 yards and 7 TDS for the year. I just don't see him getting up to 1100 yards just yet. We still have so many weapons to spread the ball around to, especially with the addition of Cooks. I wouldn't mind being wrong on that though. Lol.
I'm incredibly excited for this season. I think our offense will get its mojo back and our defense will be top 3 easy.

First thing I have to say is I have no clue how people can still say that Stills is not a deep threat. This kid has jets and a damn good YPC.
Second, I think we have to take some factors into account to try to determine how many targets he might see. We've gotten rid of Moore and Sproles and only added Cooks so I'd say right away that at the least he should get most of, if not all plus some, of Moore's targets. Cooks might eat away at most or all of Sproles' targets if not more.
I could see Colston losing or gaining a few targets. Just depends on how the dynamics work and how teams choose to play us.
So if you figure Stills keeps his targets and adds Moore's he is likely to get about 60 receptions for over 1,000 yards.
And if Stills, Colston, and Cooks all break 1,000 yards I'm pretty sure that would be a first for Saints' receivers, and I believe the first time under Payton even 2 receivers would break 1,000. Adding Graham in that should be about 4,000 yards right there.
This offense has serious potential just by clearing out Moore to make more room for Stills, and trading out shorter passes for less yards per catch to Sproles and giving them to Cooks on both long and short passes but having a MUCH higher ypc.
frick I could see Brees hitting 6,000 yards this year, especially if Morgan is healthy(ypc monster in waiting) and PT gets even 50 catches. But I don't want to get too ahead of things.

Way too ahead of things lol. But I think that on paper this looks like one of the best offenses of the Brees/Peyton era. I think Cooks will be better than Sproles ever was, Stills better than Moore ever was, plus Jimmy and Colston being themselves. If Coleman pulls a Colston, woah

Yeah that's all I'm saying. We took other players from when Brees was hitting 5,000+ yards and upgraded over them. Jimmy's still in his prime and Colston, at worst, is on a very slight down slope(still had 75 catches for just shy of 1,000 yards last year despite people saying he fell off; more impressive that he did most of that later after somewhat recovering from nagging injuries).

Actually looking back at it Colston had 21 catches in the first 4 games(5.25 per), then had 6 catches over the next 3 games(2 per), missed a game*, and then had 48 catches over the final 9 games(5.33 per). He also had 13 catches in the 2 playoff games(6.5 per).
You also notice his ypc drop dramatically in the 3 games before he sat out.
*Missed the Jets game. Also many people said that was Toon's audition(which was correct) and he blew it(which is also correct) and went in the dog house(which is incorrect) but it was more of a case of Colston and Moore(missed 3 early games) coming back healthy.
We usually only take 4 receivers into the game and Colston, Stills, Moore, and Meachem(he was active every game except week one before he signed) were those 4.
Toon was active week one before we signed Meachem, weeks 4-6 while Moore was out, and weeks 8-11 when Colston had serious injury concerns. That was 1 week before Colston missed a game and 2 weeks after he came back. So we only had 5 active receivers for 3 weeks.

He's certainly not slow, but he's also not blowing by people the same way a young Devery was for example.

I don't believe Kenny Stills, Morgan or Cooks are deep threats. Why???? Drew Brees cannot throw the deep ball. If those receivers run free for 4 seconds, Drew cannot get them the ball. Drew will have to hit them in stride at 3 seconds. If the protection or play goes tpo 4 seconds or more, all three will have to wait for the ball and the coverage will close. I'd love to see them sith the 2006/2009 Drew Brees.

He had the most Deep Passing TD's last season (15) to only 2 interceptions. In 2012, he also led the NFL in deep passing touchdowns
He had the 2nd most deep passing yards last season
He's been one of the best deep passers in the NFL over the last few seasons
The yards/attempt means that he is hitting his targets in stride chief. He has the most deep touchdowns over the last 3 years (42)

Everything is relative.
Stills was put in a spot where he was our only deep threat on the outside and we had a poor run game most of the year, with a pretty bad offensive line through some stretches. It was easy for defenses to keep a safety over the top of him and play him deep.
We'll see how he does with Cooks and maybe Morgan back, a better offensive line(if our center is good and everyone is healthy), and hopefully an improved run game.
People tend to forget Devery only had 1 season over 34 catches(51) and that's the year Meachem "blew up". It's not like he was doing much better than Stills did any other year(2 years over 20 ypc, 1 season at 20 ypc, and 5 seasons below 16 ypc including the super bowl year).
Stills is a burner.
