Whoa , an opinion piece contrarian to liberal mainstream media from outkick. So spot on!

Middle aged white dudes gonna eat that content up and share it all over social media. Don’t even have to read it to know what it says.

You should read it. It’s written by a middle aged black man who at least has the common sense to recognize agenda driven people who prey on others using their celebrity status.

I’m very familiar with Whitlock. This type of article (which I did read and should have phrased my comment as I knew what this article said before I read it) is the outkick brand.
Clay travis and Jason Whitlock are both very smart people. They know exactly what their audience wants to here. So they mix in a black writer; and remind people of the claim that clay voted for Obama in 2008, to show its an unbiased opinion. So hey Props to them because there is a huge market for their content and their business plan is a gold mine.

And more props to them for this because it allowed clay travis to stand on a pedestal and rip florio’s righteous self which was great.

You’re more focused on the author of the content than the actual content itself in the article. What part of the article do you disagree with?

When was there a worse signing for the Saints than this malcontent? Byrd? Browner? Junior? MJ might be the worst of them all after what he did to Brees.

Perfectly explains how Jenkins is full of crap on many levels. Coach Payton is a SJW and brought in this load mouth. Much like his multi millionaire buddy Collin, he is a rich, egotistical guy who appreciates nothing. It will be interesting to see how this Jenkins experiment works out.

Not the point of this thread - but he completely convolutes the definition of essential business. No big deal.

What I disagree with about this article

- he makes assumptions about how brees and Payton feel without any evidence (bad journalism)

He uses hyperbole to discredit Jenkins by overstating nfls short comings.

Most rationale people would agree MJ has some (Not all) valid points related to BLM and covid19 if you listened to what has to say.

Whitlocks article is condescending and reads like propaganda for the nfl before gooddel got woke.

I do agree with this point 100%

You miss the multiple times in the article that he suggests Payton is unhappy with Jenkins for his comments? I tend to agree with you that coach Payton knew what he was doing and Whitlock is just guessing

Exactly. Some feel like Whitlock is just going after a different targeted crowd, but so what? He actually makes fair and valid points. Even if they don't believe he is sincere.. I actually do, but that is irrelevant.

quote:

For black men and boys football is essential business. It provides a structure to develop discipline, an environment to connect with male role models, an activity to channel aggressive energy, a pathway out of the ghetto to a college campus and, for the extremely blessed, a revenue-generator that allows them to positively change the lives of the people they love.

I understand concern over COVID-19. But that concern doesn’t render the industry that has created more black male millionaires than any other American industry nonessential.

Malcolm Jenkins thinks he’s the brains who can fix the criminal justice system. He doesn’t even understand the importance of his own industry. Does he think football is nonessential for Joe Burrow, Chase Young, Jeff Okaduh, Tua Tagovailoa and the other rookies just starting their careers?

How about the kid who was like me in 1985, living in a 400-square-foot, one-bedroom apartment with his dad in the ’hood? Football was my only way to college. Despite never getting a whiff of the NFL, getting a football scholarship to Ball State University changed my life and eventually changed the lives of my mom and dad.

I’m not saying we have to play football this season. But I’m disappointed that Malcolm Jenkins, someone who has greatly benefited from the game, would go on an agenda-driven, football-hating TV network and call the game nonessential.

I agree he makes some fair and valid points. But how can you applaud an article that is filled with assumptions about what Jenkins , and Brees and Payton, think; when the only quote in the entire article is the sentence that the attention grabbing headline is about ?

he misleads people to make this article more entertaining. Maybe he is being sincere. If he is , accurate portrayal of what the people he is criticizing have actually said would help.

It's an opinion piece. He even prefaced it with "You'd have to think...". He didn't speak matter of fact what they thought.

I’m cool with Whitlock telling us what we the reader probably thinks , or what he thinks.

quote:

Malcolm Jenkins thinks he’s the brains who can fix the criminal justice system

But stuff like this? Weak BS. No reason ,explanation , or quote to back it up.
