Hes 6’5 225. If he can be middling it will be the first prototypical nfl qb we have had since kerry collins. Hey may be garbage but at least he is an actual qb versus a shrimp or hybrid runner, or tight end

Jameis was prototypical size. That doesn't mean shite.

He was also good in college. Odds are Shough won't ever even reach NFL Jameis level.

i like shough a lot more than jameis.

but jameis was a number 1 pick in a draft. so you're sort of comparing an orange to a crab.

You make a good point haha. We have drafted poorly lately. We’ve missed in the 2nd round a lot, so this is either business as usual or we end up with a steal at the most important position in sports.

P brain compared Shough to Michael Penix, Jayden Daniels and Bo Nix

Penix comparisons aren’t ridiculous.

I said on draft day...the reaction to him after he was picked was totally ridiculous. People were threatening to shoot Mickey.

the truth is no one knows how any guy will turn out

He's plenty accurate

62.7% comp is not accurate. He was 10th in the ACC

8% of his passes were throwaways, most in the draft. People say don’t worry about the injuries, but one could surmise he’s scared to get hit. Folks say look at Hurts, Herbert, Dak, the last three QBs under Moore. All mobile, all ran Moore’s RPO (most RPO in the league last year). One could surmise that Shough will be expected to tuck it. We are told not to worry about his injuries, but his injuries in college were when he was running with the ball, far as I can find.

Don’t think that’s it. We can all hope for the best with Shough. Just don’t ignore what’s right in front of ya, don’t overthink this one

Penix finished 8th in the Heisman in ‘22 and runner up in ‘23. Won the Maxwell in ‘23. Not only did he win he lit up the stat sheet

Why do you think Moore/Tolzien/Nuss were so high on him, as well as guys like Riddick?

What about him do you think intrigued them so much?

They’re chasing the archetype of Moore’s past three QBs. Big, athletic, good arm

Only difference is the three previous QBs were way more accomplished in college.

Bunchie, we are supposed to care that Shough played in a pro style system under Coach Brohm? Like Jack Plummer, Aiden O’Connell, David Blough, Brandon Doughty before him. Who? Exactly

Why do you think they went for Shough at 40?

I haven't had a lot of time to read about it or anything. I know Moore did an interview where he talked specifically about traits with Shough he liked but I didn't listen to it.

Louis Riddick did one too (also didn't listen to it).

You're smarter about this stuff than I am so I was curious. You're very down on it obviously and have a lot of data. But there are a lot of smart people that really love him. So you have to wonder what they see.

I think its probably more complicated than he's tall

I would have rolled with Rattler and used the pick for something else. I am down on it in that sense. Next year’s class is a lot better and we likely end up top 5-10 again under Rattler

I’m just looking for a non nonsensical answer to why a 25 year old, with that athletic profile, was so mid in a pretty bad conference. QB play is the most statistically quantifiable position in all of sports. I’d just like to see more here to marry to the great athletic profile (which I love)

quote:

Rattler vs Shough College

399 vs 389 attempts
68.9 vs 62.7comp%
19 vs 23 TDs
8 vs 6 INT
8 vs 8.2 Y/A
147.7 vs 148.1 QB rating

Rattler 23 y/o in SEC
Shough 25 y/o in the ACC

quote:

The Louisville Qb the year prior went 10-4 and finished 19th in the polls. His name was Jack Plummer, it was his first year at Louisville after stops at Purdue and Cal.

Plummer 6’4 216, Age 23

395 attempts (Shough 389)
64.8 comp% (Shough 62.7%)
3,204 yards (Shough 3,195)
21 TDs (Shough 23)
12 INT (Shough 6)
8.1 Y/A (Shough 8.2)
144.4 Rating (Shough 148)

Plummer is on Carolina’s practice squad.
