Apparently we were "average" this off-season.

"And last but certainly not least, the Saints made history by trading two first-round draft picks to acquire Davenport at No. 14 overall"

I would have thought MT would know better than to drop the "two first Rd picks" nonsense.

mike tripplet is special

I don't give a shite what he says, I think we did amazing this off-season and it will show September 9th

What we got back has no relevance to what we gave up.

I never said it was a dumb trade, just don’t act like Green Bay didn’t get 2 firsts in the trade.

They traded spots in the first round this year.

I don't get why this is so hard to understand.

Traded spots=1 first round pick

Then we traded next year’s 1st.

1+1=2

How many firsts would they have had if we didn't trade?

-1 for the pick we got from GB this year = 1

ETA This "we gave away 2 1st round picks for him" narrative is just fodder for people who want to bash the move and make it sound worse than it actually is.

The pick we traded for.

I don’t understand the need to massage the language.

We traded 2 firsts and a fifth to get a 1st.

What we received has no baring on what we gave up.

We are arguing semantics.

No matter how you spin it,

We traded: 2 firsts and a 5th

We received: 1 first

Did getting pick 14 make us not give up pick 27?

Are you people the product of cousin fricking??

We only lost one first rounder in the deal, and it is next years, most likely 25 or later. Davenport will be worth it.

Based on your idiotic responses in this thread, I wouldn’t be surprised if you actually do work for the FBI.

Btw I’m a HUGE supporter of the move. I loved it on draft day and still love it today.

I’m a proponent of acting like we didn’t trade pick 27.

Also if you use pick 14 to cancel out pick 27, then we didn’t receive anything in the trade.

Here’s the math problem like you are trying to argue:

14= 27+’19 first+ 147

If 14 cancels out 27 then the problem now looks like this:

0=‘19 first+147

So did we not get anything in return for our other 2 picks?

From the original article this is why this conclusion was drawn:

"Move I didn't like: I like just about every player the Saints added, but I was surprised how much a few of them cost -- especially Davis (three years, $24 million) and Coleman (three years, $16.35 million). Meredith (two years, $9.5 million) could be a huge bargain, but the Chicago Bears were too scared to even offer him one year and $2.9 million as a restricted free agent. Robinson (four years, $20 million) didn't break the bank, but he got paid for a career season after he had just signed a one-year, minimum-salary deal a year ago. And last but certainly not least, the Saints made history by trading two first-round draft picks to acquire Davenport at No. 14 overall.

No one will care what any of these guys cost if they pan out, though. And Davenport and Davis, in particular, have the chance to emerge as big-time playmakers for a front seven that needed them."

Basically saying we overpaid in the free agent market but not really touching on how they improve the team,

Meredith will be a steal if healthy, loved what he did in Chicago the year before. They weren't scared to offer him, Pace rolled the dice on getting him extremely cheap and lost. I don't buy his spin, Meredith's injury was not nearly as severe as it looked initially.

quote:

Doctors told Meredith on Tuesday that while the ACL in the knee is torn and will require replacement, other damage is minimal. The prognosis is for a full return in perhaps as soon as eight months.

Pace's spin reeks of bullshite attempting to cover up his miscalculation
