Yes but we also really struggled earlier in games and we're often putting garbage pointsat the end . Also against the decent defenses we played:sf , ATL, Denver we struggled quite a bit. Easy to pad stats against Oakland and downward spiraling Tampa.

I agree with this wholeheartedly, but I believe our playcalling had just as much to do with horrible offensive consistencies than anything else. Carmichaels inability to adjust in game was staggering. We could score two possessions in a row and then disappear for a quarter and a half. We haven't seen those kind of issues from Payton since 08

That's what maddened me more than anything last year. I hope it was primarily a coaching thing. We did seem to drop a shitload of passes at key moments though.

The whole offense was off last year. OL problems the first 5 games. Inability to run until the middle of the year. Then when we can run we only pass then Brees starts throwing interceptions then good offense then more shitting the bed.

I'm just not sure Calvin Johnson makes us "unstoppable". There's only so many balls to go around. What do we do with Jimmy Graham's passes? Not to mention we still have crappy defensive players.

Great players and I get your point, but I'd rather have Von Miller, Patrick Peterson, J.J. Watts or Patrick Willis before him.

I feel what you are saying & I totally agree with you. The match up problems with having Megatron in the Saints offense would be entirely too much for a defense to handle. Defenses already have to bracket & double him every play & that would just create big play after big after for the other weapons on offense.

The offense would be able to dictate flow & tempo of every game. Time of possession would be heavily in favor of the Black & Gold every game & the offense would probably be able to maximize every possession into points. You would probably looking at an offense that would set a record for fewest punts in a season. It would be very hard to lose when you are constantly dominating time of possession while scoring in the high 30's & 40's every single game with occasional half a hundred. The only factor that could cause an offensive team of this potential to lose would be multiple turnovers.

As much as id like to get some defensive help the tempataion of Brees throwing to Megatron would be too much. I cant imagine the shite Payton could come up with

I'd still go with J. J. Watt.

That dude just makes all the difference in the world to that team.
What he brings to the table cannot be matched by anyone else.

If everyone thought the offensive play of the final 8 games of 2011 was out of this world, it would pale in comparison to an offense with Megatron as a receiver in it.

You would take a QB that wouldn't see the field until he is 28?

Edit: It's a tie between Von Miller and Aldon Smith for me.

Exactly!

With CJ it becomes more than the addition of 1 guy . Guys will have much much easier match ups across the board. How do you possibly fully cover Graham if you're dedicating that much to Megatron. Maximizing Brees's ability to completely dictate a game is going to mean a shitload more than adding a linebacker although the defense would be helped similarly to a lesser extent. It will dramatically alter how opposing teams have to play week in and out because they're going to HAVE to score 35+. I also am assuming we get at least some improvement from our defensive changes in addition to the help they would get by the offense dictating the flow of games.

Gertrude Stein once said, “A difference, to be a difference, must make a difference.”

I don't believe there is any one player we could add to the defense to justify our magic any-player-in-the-league wish.

So my pick is CJ.

Calivn Johnson + our offense = completely unstoppable. Seriously, it would be downright unfair.

All hail megatron!

Aldon Smith disappears without an effective DT playing next to him.

I want Demarcus Ware or JJ Watt.

Calvin Johnson. Peyton Manning throwing to Calvin Johnson, DeMaryius Thomas, and Eric Decker, while Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno (or another drafted running back if he is released, like Eddie Lacy) are at running back, would be killer for any defense. If I had to take a defensive player, it'd be a guy like Eric Berry or a healthy Darrelle Revis.

Yep, I couldn't agree more. The running game would be almost impossible to stop when Payton would chose to want to run. Defenses would NEVER be able to put 8 in the box even in an I formation single receiver set because you can't get away with single covering Johnson. Teams would also face the possibility of giving up huge chunk yards on the ground & through screens if they are caught in situations where they bracket Johnson. The NFL has become a game of numbers & matchups. If you understand that concept completely & consider the talent already on the Saints offense, then one can easily see why the addition of Megatron would triumph over the addition of even the best defensive player in the league.

As much as I would love to have AP as well, the Saints need a Watt, Miller, Willis, or Ware type.
