Payton is the one "choosing the ingredients".
Payton no doubt has a say in offensive prospects but I guarantee Payton said hey let's go get Chris Chamberlain.
And why wouldnt PCJr take the job? He would be handed the keys to a ferrari.

In no way was I saying that PCJr was better than Payton the point I was trying to make if you were fiven the option would you take a chance with Payton leaving in three years or go with somebody like PCJr who would be here awhile.
3 years is a long time in the NFL. Who says Carmichael is the guy to run the team when the Drew Brees Era ends? In 3 years time the always moving NFL pendulum may swing away from the current accurate QB friendly system. We may want a coach that focuses on the run or defense or something completely different from what PCJr does best, which as of now is work with Drew Brees and the pass happy offense. Dumping Payton for stability of more than 3 years would be a stupid decision unless you actually thought he was better than Payton.

What if Payton's sucess lies within Drew Brees? Do you think we win a superbowl with Dante Culpepper?

I would take Payton for ONE more year over Pete for ten years in a heart beat. Nothing against Pete because I like him and believe he would do great but Payton has proven he can win a superbowl and the great talent that is on this team is getting older quickly. So I want everything we can get out of this team NOW.

What if Drew's success lies within Payton. I think they would be good/great without each other but they are AWESOME with each other. Let's just ride this thing out until its over. Which I hope isn't any time soon.

Then surely Carmichael's success would have come from Brees too and the team will be ready for a coaching change when he retires, so like I said and it won't matter, and if it doesn't matter you should stick with Payton.

What if Payton and Drew's success resides with Curtis Johnson and we will be terrible this year.

I get what you're saying and it would set us up nicely if in fact Payton is leaving the team in 3 years (which I don't think he is leaving until Drew retires at the earliest) and Pete could take us into another great era. But all we know is what's in front of us and as of today; Payton is the man that did what no one else thought was possible. And why change coaches in Drew prime? He is the best QB we've ever had and judging by our past maybe the best we will have for a long time. I hate echoing myself but let's run this bad boy into the ground!

On a side note, which probably should be a topic of it's own, I am tired of ESPN saying how arrogant coach Payton is. No more than any other coach that's in the league. You got to have a little ego to be a head coach in the NFL where every player on your team has an ego and every Joe Blow reporter is going to ask you questions like you're an idiot after a game. I think they are painting a picture of someone that just isn't Sean.

Payton is an arrogant man, hence why most of local reporters don't like him.

I nominate Brees as the interim HC/QB

What IF Brees don't sign though?

Then we sign Jamarcus Russell to play C/QB/ Team Doctor

All good.
Its time to enter the 'slows' now I think.
Don't see the Saints having much else to do with FA.
What a f'ing off season.
Blu will have to see us through till draft.

To think we were all freaking out last year at this time about Payton moving to Dallas.
Posted on 3/28/12 at 11:35 am to cajuntiger07
