So the Broncos?

Hell, take Brees for example - he was a "bust" in SD and then revived his career in NO.
Uhhhhhh Brees was a Pro Bowl QB in San Diego (google it) who suffered a horrific shoulder injury not a scrub who was sent packing due to being a bust

Take this to the Gump board
We already have a Super Bowl winning quarterback

That would be awesome too.

Correct - but way to completely miss the boat. Think the point of the thread was to see what people thought about how long brees had left in the tank and replacements/protege's for Brees to groom...
If you stick with that method of thinking, you guys are gonna be in a world of hurt in 3+ years. Always gotta plan for the future.

I'm a brees fan, even read his book. But he can't last forever.
Real question, do you think the success AJ has had over LSU in college could factor in to him going to the saints?

I don't know who Brees' replacement will be, but I trust the organization knows best. I know that unless he sustains a career ending injury(god forbid), he'd probably have a good 3-5 years before we need to look into that

I'm with you in this topic DD. in one of the few LSU fans who thinks AJ is a very, very solid QB. He might have been a game manager in 11' but he won Bama the LSU game in 2012 and really led a very underrated passing attack. Everyone assumes Bama smashed people into submission last year, but they were pretty flashy at points as well.
And to actually answer the OP, I think he has about 5 great years left in him honestly. I see no reason why he can't play as long as Favre. Right around 39 or 40 is when I see him becoming less God-like and a little more average. But hey, by then we'll have one of the most vaunted defenses in the league backing him up, so we'll be good.

I would have a very hard time seeing any quarterback being taken in the first round by New Orleans this coming year--in that respect, AJ would be off the table
I'm not saying he won't be a good NFL quarterback--he may be. I just don't think the Saints will be where he lands

If anything, it makes him worse.

AJ reminds me of Joe Flacco. Very careful, non-flashy QB that gets the job done. I wouldn't mind him, but there's no way he goes over 20 next draft (if Alabama does well again this year), and the Saints are drafting 32nd next year anyway. Falcons might want him with their 1st pick though...

Fair enough. It's funny someone mentioned brees being like favre in terms of playing good late in his career, AJ could be put in a similar situation as Aaron rodgers. Maybe AJ gets fricked and goes round 2, to the saints. But I'm reaching now.

So your answer is yes. I would hope not, but not having a pro team in Alabama, you kinda just wanna see him go somewhere close and relevant.

Meh.
This is pointless. Ryan Griffin is the heir apparent.

in response to the OP, Brees has 4-5 years left. So, no, we aren't drafting AJ

AJ...
Eat a dick and die. That dude isn't going to be anything but a career backup in the NFL. Brees has plenty left in the tank. We already have one Gump bust on our team that continues to frick up everyone around him, we don't need another. Bama players are system players who reach their peak in college under a great coach in Saban. They very rarely have much left to work with by the time they come to the NFL. AJ is a decent QB but he reminds me of poor man's Matt Ryan at best. A pure game manager and we see how far that's been going for Atlanta.
Brees 10 years left...

I seriously agree with this. I think Griffin will be a solid starting QB in the NFL by the time Brees retires.

He picked apart the best LSU defense ever, as a soph.
If picking apart means throwing 0 TDs and 2 ints in 2 full games. Also averaging less yards than the rest of the ranked (top25) teams LSU faced that year.... Pass
He seems to be an average qb on a great team
ETA: He will make a roster as a clipboard holder. And a good one at that.

I think Brees has 5 years left, so the saints won't be drafting a QB this year. Maybe in two or three years they start looking for a replacement if they don't have one already.
