How is Roger Craig just getting to the HOF?

What’s criminal is Roger Craig just getting into the HOF. He was so fricking good. He should have been a first ballot

Because the way Bill Walsh used him his numbers weren't HOF worthy. He was the FB until 1986, and then his yards were split between rushing and receiving.

Look I loved Roger and I do think he should be in THE HOF . He did have 1000 receiving and rushing yards in a season n was dynamic but if you gonna throw stats he had just over 8000 yards rushing in 11 seasons. Thats not noteworthy stats.

Roger Craig changed the RB position absolutely he should have been first ballot. Also an argument could be made that Even though he had fellow HOF Joe Montana(still the GOAT) and Jerry Rice he was the straw that stirred that 49ers drink.

I'm not really making a case either way, I thought that he was very good but the question I have is "why now?". What changed in the last 25 years to warrant it or why wasn't it warranted before this year?

I thought he already was. Amazing. He was the one who set the tread for others to how all purpose backs should be. Man he was a weapon.

I remember a NFL films interview with him about facing the Saints LB's. He talked about the first time he faced Vaughan Johnson. He told his offensive linemen after 2 early, bone-crunching hits: "I don't know who that dude is, but don't let him hit me anymore."

Yeah but I think being a trailblazer at his position easily surpasses a few thousand yards rushing.

When you consider the fact that he retired in 1993, that 8,000+ yards had him ~12th in rushing yards at the time, with another 4 or 5 that passed him by the time he was first eligible.
Should also be mentioned that his 4,911 receiving yards may have placed him 2nd in receiving yards for a RB when he retired. I'm not as confident in the 2nd place positioning as I could not filter by RBs and may have missed 1-2 guys.
