Defense looked weak without Lattimore last week.

This week without Lattimore & Crawley the defense looked even worse like recent sad Saints’ defenses.

Having them back healthy helps every phase of the game:
helps pass coverage...
...which helps the pass rush
...which helps with quick 3&outs and/or turnovers
....which helps the pass & rush offense because opponents defenses get tired by the 2nd half
....which leads to dominating wins.

Fingers are crossed that our CB studs are back for our divisional games and remain healthy thru the playoffs. Because if they are healthy, the Saints are unbeatable.

it'd be a closer game. I think dominate a bit strong. The rams aren't a fantastic matchup for us and then whipped us pretty soundly in most phases today.

i was surprised when the Rams continued to throw late in the game.

a few foul ups here or there by them and we would have had a few more cracks at it.

the young QB/coach combo they have may work against them in the playoffs. That's if they don't choke away the position they hold now.

the Saints D had its usual early letdown on the opening drive where the Rams took it down for a 7-0 lead. The last 8 weeks or so an early score by the opponent hadn't mattered but it did today.

Cam Jordan played well a whale of a game and you can't help but wonder what it would have been like with Lattimore and Crawley in the game also. I did think the Rams looked good but it really felt like they left the door open for a late comeback.

just my opinion.

They'll win in the wildcard round at best.

Healthy corners and a healthy O-Line and we can beat anyone.

If these last two games have shown us anything, it's that Lattimore is the most important piece to this defense.

With him, our defense is elite. Without him, we have blown coverages everywhere, Vaccaro has to play out of position, Harris sees the field, and PJ plays too many snaps. It messes up our entire back end.

I think PJ is as solid as there is for a 3rd or 4th CB, I say 4th assuming usually Vaccaro is nickel. He still has some upside and I like his cocky attitude (I realize most people don't). Obviously we are better off with Lattimore and Crawley playing. Just saying, PJ is good enough to have to throw in there b/c of injuries.

this is why I think we should hold onto Breaux next year. We need more depth at CB. PJ is decent depth but PJ and Harris starting together just isn't gonna cut it

Yep, completely agree

The overreaction by the saintsfan123 types here is absurd, I’m not even entertaining them this week

With crawley and lattimore, this defense doesn’t have as much trouble getting off of the field on third down.. not having them KILLED us yesterday.. I truly believe that if they are healthy, we win that game

I don't agree. Even with Harris at CB, LA was held to 26pts. They score 34 a game. The offense didn't show up. They didn't run the ball. Even if they were stopping Ingram, they had no answer for Kamara. This should have been a good road win.

So basically you're telling me, with healthy stud corners instead of camp bodies, the Rams really could have been held to 14 or 17 points instead of 26,
which actually means more Rams punts,
which means more Saints possessions,
which means more touches for Kamara/Ingram/Thomas/Brees,
which means more points than the 20 they scored,
which means the Rams become more predictable and one dimensional falling behind,
which invites more turnovers,
which could have led to a potentially dominating 34-14 Saints road win.

You're indirectly making my point that healthy stud corners would have helped both sides of the ball.

I guess so. But what I meant is that they wouldn’t dominate because the offense was putrid. The D wasn’t the biggest problem yeatrday. That was my point.

Yes, the game probably would have been different had this two guys been in. But with all things being equal, it’s not a domination.

having the corners get's the ball back for the offense more so they don't stop running the ball and pressing in the passing game.

I was too until I heard them talking about the ties between the coaching staff and the Saints. Kromer was calling the plays, and I saw Bill Johnson on the sideline. They mentioned another coach, but I didn't catch his name.
