Has anyone else noticed the Saints Draft better now that RP is gone?

It seems after Ryan Pace left for Chicago, and the Saints brought in Jeff Ireland they seem to draft much better.

It seems Pace in Chicago, has made questionable coaching hires with John Fox, and in the draft with Trubiskey and with other moves.

I believe the Saints definitely upgraded with Ireland over Pace.

IIRC, Pace was pro personnel and didn't have a big voice in the draft. Ireland is college personnel and he replaced Rick Reiprish. Terry Fontenot took over Pace's role with the Saints.

It's hard to gauge the last two drafts bc we've been mortgaging draft capital to win now w/ the Brees window.

Hard to argue how good McCoy and Davenport (when healthy) have been tho. Them panning out has been crucial.

No doubt.

Also not going to Vegas for a key portion of the pre draft process helps.

Ireland struggled as a GM but in this role he has now, heavily focusing on college scouting, he's as good as it gets.

Ryan Pace should be fired for trading up to get Trubiskey.

I don’t agree with this at all.

In the last few drafts, we’ve added Lattimore, Ram, Kamara, Marcus Williams, Hendrickson, Davenport, CGJ, and Eric McCoy

That’s pretty damn impressive for any team, especially for one that’s mortgaging draft capital as you said

If you go back an extra year, you can add MT13, Rankins, Vonn Bell, and Onyemata to that list.

That’s a ridiculous amount of above average to elite starting NFL talent

I meant the last 2 drafts. Few = two, but I'll edit it.

I dunno man, theres a lot of solid players, some probowlers and a couple of all pros

thats a pretty good gauge of success!

But I think I get where youre coming from...how much has/will giving up those picks to move up affect us long term.

Before it’s too late, they should move Mickey higher up in the organization and give Ireland the official title but them both still essentially have the same duties. Ireland deserves it and it’s clear Mickey isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Why not reward both?

Especially if they add two more dynamic players in the first and third round this year

We mortgage picks bc we go get the right players. If you sit pat and miss out on the player you want then you have to settle. I would rather trade up for our guy than draft two busts. It has worked well for us and I think we learned a lesson in 2018 when we ended up cutting all of our late round picks. Our roster is so good that we don’t have room for all those guys/picks

So it’s hard to judge arguably the greatest draft in nfl history from 2 years ago?

Shy Tuttle and Deonte Harris were two of the best rookies at their position as UDFAs. Most teams actual draft picks didn’t have that much success

Agreed. There are 31 NFL team that wish they did as well.

Those picks and add in the fact that we have been in the playoffs.

So yes we have traded away some 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders to move up to grab players like Kamara and McCoy. But they are great players.
