I think they even have to be more elite than that. Retire #9 once Drew leaves and that's it.
And don't get me wrong, I love Jackson and Mills is one of my favorite Saints of all times. I just think retired numbers should be the elite of the elite. Montana, Marino, Sanders, Payton, Favre. Guys every NFL fan recognizes by last name.

Agreed; however, Jackson is our first every HOF inductee as well as the best LB on the best LB squad in the history of the game. That's saying something. As for Mills, he acheived so much for someone who was too small and not meant to play in the NFL. Guy was great, but also his death and the way he fought up until that end is enough to retire his number IMO.

As stupid as this statement is, it has been reality for the saints and the tigers the last few years.
there have been some very good fa in the past years that the saints have not persued just to take someone with more pure athleticism but get less production.
and the tigers, well they just don't recruit white guys period unless it's a qb. much less any position on defense
