With the strong possibility of home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs on the line, New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton says that Jabari Greer, Scott Shanle and Jeremy Shockey will play Sunday at Charlotte in the regular season finale against the Carolina Panthers.
Payton said that all three were close to playing against Tampa Bay but that he decided to wait another week to bring them back. Payton made the comments on NFL Radio on Sirius Monday morning.
Payton added that Greer would play, regardless of whether the Vikings lose at Chicago tonight, which would give the Saints home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs. Greer has not played since week eight (November 8) against Carolina due to a groin injury, eventually diagnosed as a sports hernia which required surgery. Greer has a pair of interceptions, including one return for a touchdown this season.
Shanle missed the loss to Tampa Bay Sunday with a concussion suffered in the 24-17 loss to Dallas on December 19. Shanle has 68 tackles and a pair of interceptions on the season.
Shockey has missed the last two games with a painful turf toe. He has 48 catches for 569 yards and three touchdowns on the season.

One positive about greer being out so long and then having the hernia operation is it allowed the other musculoskeletal injury to heal...or at least it should have in 9 weeks.

Although I'm irritated that they could have played against the Bucs but didn't, I'd rather them stay out one extra week and be healthy for the playoffs. Better they sit out until healthy than take a chance of getting re-injured.

Just reading this pumps me up. This is what this team needs, a shot in the arm. This can go one of two ways:
Scenario 1:We get healthy and dominate the Panthers and role into the playoffs of the wave of emotion that we had earlier in the season.
Scenario 2: We get healthy and nothing improves. Fans become negative, team becomes negative and the playoffs are done after our first game.
I know there are more options but to me it pretty basic. Get healthy and back on track or get healthy and keep struggling. Personally I feel Scenario 1 is the more probable and if it does happen....hold on because it's going to be a wild ride.

I can understand your concern but this team needs to gamble for a chance to get emotion back on their side. We need to dominate and make a statement and let the rest of the NFL world know the Saints are still here.
