I'm not sure anyone has ever actually traded for a non-exclusive tagged player.

Sean Gilbert (for the two firsts) and Peerless Price (the Bills agreed to take less) are the only two that I know of.

Why would they give up both pick this season when they could give up the later pick this year and next years pick.

The more important question is why would St. Louis do this with 35 million dollar TE Jared Cook and 2011 2nd round draft pick Lance Kendricks on the team?

Yeah as nice as 3 first round picks this year sound.. I kinda would probably rather just 1 first round from them this year, and their first rounder next year. aka I would rather have 2 first round picks the next two seasons

How could you not want three first round picks this year?? You guys are insane. I'd do that in a damn heartbeat.

First, if this is talking about the Rams signing away Graham we would NOT get the number 2 pick.

It is not the Rams original pick and the compensation must be a team's original picks.

Second, if this is talking about the Rams trading these picks for Graham, that would be extremely stupid as they can just attempt to sign him away for the lesser compensation(unless the Rams somehow are the worst team next year).

The whole thing sounds like a completely fabricated hypothetical from someone who has no clue how the tag works.

I was the first to doubt the veracity of the tweeter's claims.

Let it be known.

This all day. But this source is horrible,

I'd work something out with them and give them graham for the 2, and maybe switch second rounders or something,

Why are people reading into this so much? I"m sure it's BS, but all it says is a seeing a rumor about Graham to the Rams, then separately states the fact that their picks are 2nd and 13th. There's nothing connected about those two points.

Absolutely no way this is true, but I'll humor it just for giggles.

If this happened we could get Watkins, Clinton-Dix and BPA at 27. Super Bowl.

ETA: I could see the Rams being interested in a trade, but not interested in simply giving up 2 1s (it is not a trade).

Rams have a lot of money tied up with Jared Cook. They want to overpay two TE's?

Guys,

I know this is likely just a foolish internet rumor.

But for shits'n'giggles, I don't think they're referencing a trade. If the Rams, or any team, make an offer to Graham and the Saints don't match it, then that other team owes the Saints two 1st round picks.

quote:

A "non-exclusive" franchise player must be offered a one-year contract for an amount no less than the average of the top five salaries at the player's position for the previous year, or 120 percent of the player's previous year's salary, whichever is greater. A non-exclusive franchise player may negotiate with other NFL teams, but if he signs an offer sheet from another team, the original team has a right to match the terms of that offer, or if it does not match the offer and thus loses the player, is entitled to receive two first-round draft picks as compensation.

Those two picks come in back to back seasons and it has to be the team's original pick (preventing teams from trading back to 32 in consecutive seasons before signing away the franchised player). The two teams could work out something involving the #2 pick, but then there's no way we're getting #13 with it.

can say a team offer Graham less money with the tag on, but the Saints still not care to match it and let him go?

where does the offer have to start at? that would be maybe a more enticing way to get a player out for 2 picks.
