I just don't see the Falcons trading up. With as many holes as they have and a lack of depth across their lines, they need to start saving their picks instead of trading them away on one player.

As for us...

Junior did well off the edge and Butler is returning. That dude doesn't know what he's talking about.

I'd rather draft an ILB. Lofton and Hawthorne's salaries jump after this season.

Clowney won't be a bust. I think he becomes a Mario Williams/DeMarcus Ware type player. Probably a little overrated, but a good pass rusher and solid run defender.

WTF?!?! Defensive line is one of the few spots we are pretty good at. Jordan, Hicks and Foster are solid.

Galette can rush the passer but we haven't seen his ability when he has to drop back into coverage. You know if they have the personnel to play a true Ryan 3-4, he will have to do that more going forward, and he will have to play more standing up. My gut feeling is he will be a liability in coverage, at least initially (based on what I've seen of him playing contain off the edge). Victor Butler is still a huge question mark to me. Any time you bring a fringe player over from another team there is still a decent chance that they will not produce like you are expecting them to. It also depends on how well he rehabs from his injury. I'm still worried about us at LB next year TBH.

yeah, I don't think so either.

but I don't think he'll reach his full potential either. I think he'll be a good player but not a great player.

Would be nice to have a well rounded OLB (FUJI) that is decent in all three phases(run/pass blitz) and doesn't get picked on.

You're right but can we be sure that Ford can drop into coverage either?

I agree. I truly think we have the best, youngest front 3 in the league. I don't think we need any more help there either. I worry about our ability to rush the passer when we have to sacrifice our run defense or middle coverage. When you have Galette playing as a every-down lineman like we did last season, the O-line knows which 4 guys to block. If we return to the traditional 3-4, the offenses will have no idea which way the 4th guy is coming from, much less the 5th on a strong blitz, that's where the Ryan scheme really starts to pay dividends.

yeah man, I agree.

I think Ford will be a good pass rusher but he did play DE @ Auburn so I wonder what his coverage skills would be like...

he'd have a lot of adjusting to do but it seems like if we picked him Rob Ryan would just have him rushing the QB most of the time.

I guess.

Not no, but hell no. We basically have a converted DE/OLB in Galette already. We don't need another one IMO. If Cam Jordan/Hicks/Galette fell last season with a major injury, then I would say maybe draft an impact DE and trade the surplus by the trade deadline next season if things were panning out. The recommendation of the Saints drafting Ford is stupid - the only way I see that happening is if he is literally the best thing on the board at 27 and its a BPA sort of thing. Not likely though, just too many holes to fill.

I mean because Rob Ryan caters to what his players do the best.

Completely agree. I want to go wr in the first but if we're going to go defense i'd like it to be in the secondary.
