23 mil would have really fricked us.

Im with you
it was always hard for me to fathom us paying over 100mil between 2 guards.
nicks is great, but you cant pay 2 guards the money you'd pay to an elite LT.
Jahri Evans will have to do for now. Hopefully they find a way to keep nicks but i doubt it.

Oh I agree. I'm holding out hope that Loomis does what he usually does and makes this team better

Unless the NFLPA can get the cap raised, a contract like that could cripple the team cap-wise.
Yeah I really don't get why people can't get this. I understand Drew wants money, and he's getting offered a lot of money one way or the other, but the more Drew gets the more it hurts the team in spending it on other players. Some people think the team should just give Drew whatever he wants because he is a great player.

Good luck finding another legit #1 WR if Colston walks...
even with the emergence of Jimmy Graham, I agree. Even though he has been nicked up over the years, he has been so consistent. Out of the six seasons he has been here, he was the leading WR in 2006,2007,2009, and 2010 for the Saints.

Of course we all want Nicks. But Brees was an all pro before Nicks, he'll be one after him. Some people act like there were jailbreaks at Brees before Nicks got here.
We've always been one of the least sacked teams since Brees got here and the only constants through that time are Brees and Evans. Everyone else has been replaced

Drew Brees is a top 5 QB easily, so he should make top 5 QB money.

LOL, thats exactly what the TAG does. You really don't know WTF you're talking about do you ? LOL

There with you. I feel like there is a very much less of a chance at finding another guard who can develop to be pretty good in 4th round or later, than finding a WR like Colston. They are both special talents and both equally important IMO, but I think it will be easier (not that I'm saying it will be easy) to find another guard, rather than a WR like Colston.

I agree with you too. I think we find a way to keep Colston but it would have been nice to tag Nicks and trade him for some picks. Watching him walk for nothing is gonna hurt

This is true.
I think a big road block is Brees "image" that he wants to project. The Saints know he wont frick with that by holding out in a season where theyve had all this controversy and theres a chance of playing the superbowl at home
So basically the Saints can call his bluff because they know he really doesnt have much leverage for this season
Thats not exactly how I would handle a star QB but thats a worst care senerio for Brees

Agreed. At the same time he was to work with management to manage the cap. Lots of people are acting like the front office is the devil in this and Brees is some pious entity who is getting fricked over. We all want to re-sign Drew to long deal, but the FO has an entire team to manage.

Red rover, red rover - send nicks on over... To Atlanta!
:)

If he's really demanding $25 million this was inevitable

I think he means top 5 QB money in terms of a full contract. Just my guess.

Somebody needs to check up on the new salary rules with the new collective bargaining agreement, you are NOT paid according to the current year's top 5 anymore, it involves multiple past years and is lower than the franchise tag used to be.
Before you attempt to call someone out, at least be right on your information.
Plus I'm talking overall deal anyways, the franchise tag is only good for one season, and if he gets hurt it will cost him tens of millions. That is why players hate the Franchise tag.

Ok i dont get it we only have to pay him 14 million instead of 23 and that means we cant sign colston and nicks longterm. Um yea colston 7 million for five years would equal 21 million thats still 2 million difference. . I just dont see how this tagging bress hurts.
