For those people who don't think the Saints game announcers have an impact on officiating

I hate it when announcers like Charles Davis, Ronde Barber, or Chris Spielman call Saints games. There are others that gloss over poor calls or non calls against the Saints.
Here is an interesting story on announcing and its impact on officiating.
Officials may have been alerted to penalty by Tony Romo’s comments

If the NFL can contact the officials on the field to throw a flag, they can just as easily instruct them to not throw a flag.
Nothing like real time in game "points of emphasis" given to refs to impact the outcomes of games.

The NFL does not have a “sky judge,” the oft-proposed official who watches the TV feed of the game and tells the officials on the field anything they missed. But Tony Romo may have served that role during Sunday’s AFC Championship Game.
quote:
With the Titans’ defense on the field late in the fourth quarter, Romo mentioned on the CBS broadcast that Tennessee had 12 players on the field. Initially, the flag wasn’t thrown. But after a delay, it was. Romo mocked the officials for how long it took them.
quote:
“There’s a flag which they should have called 10 minutes ago when I said there were 12 people on the field. I think they just decided to start talking about it now: ‘Can they play with 12?’ ‘Nope, it’s 11.’ ‘You’re sure?’ ‘Yes. Can’t play with 12. We’ve still got that rule,'” Romo jokingly narrated as the officials discussed the play.
quote:
Former NFL referee Terry McAulay, now an officiating analyst for NBC, wrote on Twitter that it looked like the New York officiating office got in touch with the referee on the field after Romo pointed out the missed call. That’s a violation of the league’s policies, but it’s an open secret that it sometimes happens.
quote:
“If they want to officiate from ‘above’ then change the rule and do it,” McAulay wrote.
quote:
It doesn’t speak well for the officials that Romo saw the penalty before they did, but sometimes someone in a booth with a monitor has a better view of the field than the officials have. Perhaps it’s time for the NFL to add an official in a booth with a monitor.

Charles Davis officiating Saints games would have me walking away from football for good. It's absolutely maddening

You know who creates the points of emphasis for the officials for each game? Rich McKay, president and CEO of the falcons.

Can we as fans demand that Rich McKay get fired.
After Rich McKay was suspended for pumping in crowd noise for Falcons games, he should have been removed permanently from his duties as Chairman of the Competition committee.
Part of his job is to make sure the rules of the game is properly administered to for all 32 teams.
He failed to manage his own team and yet he has the power to impact 31 other teams.
His position is a total conflict of interest for the Saints and the other teams in the NFC South.
Rich McKay, the chairman of the Competition Committee and President and CEO of the Falcons is the person responsible for the allstar playoff officiating crews.
The chairman and his assigns set NFL assignments and "points of emphasis" for the NFL games and playoff games.
CSP as a member of the Competition Committee has no in season authority, voting power, or responsibility to this committee.
CSP can only suggest rule changes in the offseason.
A division rival should not have this much influence on the Saints' fate in the postseason.
Saints ownership should publicly ask for McKay's removal.
Officiating is the biggest problem for the Saints in the postseason.

I think they just need to get it right, and it seems they did. I dont give a shite how they did it, it makes sense to me to be in touch with a control room like the nba does it.

NFL Officiating is an absolute disaster and they know it, but they don't care.

I don't think that is the OP's point... the point is the douche bag announcer yelling its not a penalty when it clearly is.

It's still speculation at this point, but it's worth looking into. If this didn't happen, then this is a huge coincidence.
Seems like maybe Romo tried to play it off after he realized what happened.

The fact that we don’t have an eye in the sky judge in the NFL is pure fricking hubris. It’s the easiest fix to all of this shite.

Romo is sitting nice after his disastrous career. I'd have never thought I'd enjoy his commentary while watching him play

Interesting... I felt like on several occasions this past season Romo was self-censoring rather than pointing out things he was seeing. I wonder if this is why

Like a minute before that they had the hilarious fricked up pi call against the titans where the analyst is talking about the fact the defender didn’t get his head around while they are showing a replay with the defender turning toward the ball long before it got there.
Still defended the shitastic pi on 3rd and long.
