Two poorly coached teams there.

When 2 D- teams play, you get the D- broadcast crew

Can someone explain to me how going for it and getting stopped is better than going for a field goal.

It was the right call to go for it.

fricking idiot announcer thought they could throw a 20 yard pass and then get FG unit on all in 5 seconds
There are a lot of things I can do in 5 seconds but that my friend is not one of them.

Probably, but not the right play call.

The way that the last Saints play happened was hilarious. He drops the ball on 4th and a foot.

I could be totally wrong here but I don't think the play call was "Fumbled Snap on Go".

If you make it you can still lose on a touchdown.
If you miss they get the ball at the spot of the kick which is better field position for them.
If it gets blocked they can run it back.
If you run for half a yard the game is over.
If you get stuffed it's better field position for you.

They have a great kicker. A better team would have gotten good enough field position to tie the game. Kick the FG, that takes a few extra seconds off the clock. Then kick a high kickoff to take off a few more seconds and make them have to go the entire field instead of just getting a couple dozen yards.

Win:
1) convert first down and run clock out.
2) Breakthrough run for TD, up too far to be caught
3) Play defense well enough to run the clock down (they have no timeouts, they needed a LONG sideline pass on 1 play to get into tying FG range). Had to be a perfect 35+ yd back shoulder throw.
Barring the FG try, play defense 2 plays and not give up a long TD.
Lose:
1) kick blocked and returned for TD
2) FG good, kickoff returned for TD
3) fumble recovered and returned for TD
4) get burned in coverage in one of 2 attempts
5) shenanigans
If you look at what might/has happened, a FG block is probably the most dangerous option. Kick return, if we're stupid enough to kick deep, also fairly common (relatively speaking).
We ALMOST fricked around and gave up the fumble, thank God that ball wasn't kicked into the open.

Why is everyone trying to analyze the Saints in-game strategy decisions? It all happened by pure accident. It was completely through the operation of chaotic chance that the Saints won.
Anyway, seemed that way to me personally.
