quote:

"After a touchdown or field goal, instead of kicking off, a team would get the ball on its own 30-yard line, where it's fourth and 15," TIME's Sean Gregory writes. "The options are either to go for it and try to retain possession or punt. If you go for it and fall short, of course, the opposing team would take over with good field position. In essence, a punt replaces the kickoffs."

Why not at the 20 and make it 1st and 10 for the scoring team.

Remember that thread that asked what will be the thing that would make you stop watching football? Well, this is it.

I have to agree.

Surely.......this won't ever happen.....

The owners would have to step in on this one. This guy is off his rocker.

I also fail to see how this would improve player safety over the current rules.

Most teams would likely punt, which are also high risk plays.

Someone needs to put Roger Goodell out of our misery.

When is someone going get this ASSCLOWN Goodell out of the Commissioner's chair? I'm all for making football as safe as possible but he's completely changing the game.

Yep. I was thinking the same thing. Not so much bc of the kickoff rule by itself. It's just that at that point I know we will stop at nothing until the NFL is a shell of its former self

Wow. That would be awful

Clicked the link. Cheer girl for the day. Figured I'd post, one of the correct things that's involved in the game today.

Yeah this will never work. It would destroy the game. Nothing like the roar of the opening kickoff and the players charging down the field and clashing that first time to start the battle.

could you imagine if for the entire hypothetical season that this rule would be implemented, the crowd would go into a frenzied "BOOOOO!!!" for every kickoff-replacement-play, meanwhile the announcers have to uncomfortably dance around the subject

shite. How would the coin toss work. Home team elects to receive err I mean play defense first for one play. Damn this would be so stupid. Hell the first part of the season the Saints offense would never get the ball the way our D played. Every team would take that 4th and 15 chance and probably win.

I don't care whether folks like the rule or not, but you're off your rocker if you think this would destroy the game.

Good ole shel.

I like how you show up once a week to tell people how wrong you think they are.
