When teams sign a player like this to a massive contract.. is there that much of a bidding war? Like Watson to the browns.. we’re other teams offering him that much money, fully guaranteed?
Just curious as to how many of these deals are actually bidding wars versus teams making dumb arse moves

It’s hard to know unless someone retires (player, exec) and tells the truth about behind the scenes. Lots of what you hear in moment is not always the full truth.
My guess based on no inside info, arnstead was some type bidding war. Watson was just team coming WAY over the top by a mile.

Seeing these big contract indicates Loomis and the saints are probably getting bargains with the cap saving extensions they are giving to their core star players. Those future cap hits probably will not look too bad in a few years.

Likely only the agents know. And they'll never tell if they want to keep making money.

No idea, but if I had to guess, we were probably offering a bit less for Armstead and trying to sell him on continuity, legacy, etc.. Doubt we were involved in a bidding war at that price range

We know how the Saints operate. They have a number for a player that they present and stick to. Armstead's number was probably something like 16 mil. Essentially, they say we really want you back, but this is what we can do. If you find something better, we appreciate your time here.
