Still not sure what formula the NFL uses to help teams like Patriots gain more picks, but with Bridgewater signing elsewhere, we were supposed to get a high pick.

Now we sign a former #1 and starter, does that drop us out ??

No that’s why we waited until after the draft to do it

The Saints will wait to officially sign him until after 4 tomorrow to keep the compensatory pick.

He won't sign anything until Monday for this reason specifically

Yep, have to wait to sign him till after 3 CT tomorrow. If we sign him before then for more than 14mil we lose the 3rd, sign him for less than 14 mil we lose the 6th. So I’m sure they’ll wait in order to prevent either of these from happening.

There’s been nothing announced by the saints or Jameis...There’s a reason for that.

It won’t be official until the compensatory window closes tomorrow.

First time that we've had a reason to say that in days. Sorry, but I'm still pretty salty about them trading up for players that would have likely been there when they drafted, then wasting a 6th for next year to get back into the 7th to draft a mediocre at best QB who they could have gotten with one of this years picks that they pissed away by trading up for the others.

And then they cap it off by signing that head case turn over machine. This may be the most poorly handled draft by the Saints since Ricky Williams.

ummmm... it was curious that both Baun & Trautman were still available when we traded for them (and in Baun's case we had been trying to trade for an hour to move up to get him... we were lucky we did... may have even screwed the Rams in the process)

Baun had a 2nd round grade and we got him in the mid 3rd

Trautman had a late 2nd-early 3rd grade and we got him during the comp pick section of round 3 (so... very late 3rd)

you do realize that...

A) 6th & 7th round picks are typically long-term projects anyway... Marques Colston is the exception that proves the rule

B) if Stevens pans out... it won't be b/c he's a pocket-passing QB... it'll be b/c he's Taysom Hill v2.0... so calling him a "mediocre at best QB" is extremely short-sighted

(ETA: C) we REALLY wanted to sign Stevens as a UDFA but got wind he was going to sign elsewhere so we had to draft him to get his rights

D) Our roster was already pretty much full and wasn't going to be able to sign 7-8 draft picks AND UDFAs)

if all goes according to plan... Jameis Winston will never see the field in a meaningful game in B&G... only in mop-up duty of a convincing win or week 17 (or 18/19 whenever that starts) when we're already locked into our spot in the playoffs

handled different perhaps... but you got 2 potential day 1 starters... someone to develop into a long term starter at TE... and a possible 2nd Swiss Army Knife
