Does Loomis "failing up" as we have all speculated actually change anything?

Everyone believes (rightfully) that Gayle will never fully get rid of Loomis. He is a made man and a de facto owner along with Lauscha.

So the speculation is that there may come a time when he "fails up" into the Benson organization and no is longer running the Saints on a day to day basis.

Let's say that happens. Would anything actually change?

He would be the owner essentially, so he would have to hire the President of Football Operations and GM. Is he going to hire someone with a wildly different philosophy than his, or someone that will continue to do what he wants them to do?

As long as he is essentially head of football operations, nothing is going to change.

I'm of the mindset that Loomis actually doesn't want to purposely ruin the Saints but has had to navigate the consequences of committing to Bree's for all those years cap wise.

I also do not think he suddenly became as idiot GM wise over the last few seasons.

I'm cautiously optimistic that he has committed to seeing this cap management ironed out as best the Saints can and then will turn over GM operations to Khai Harley in the near future. Harley is beginning to get some interest around the league so that time may be getting close.

I have no clue about Mickey's actual role in the Benson organization past his role of GM. There was some scuttlebutt about his last contract having verbiage in it made him a stakeholder of the team to manage Tom's wishes for the team beyond boht Tom's and Gayles life. But nobody really knows what wasn't in those talks.

One thing is for sure, If this team ends up with a top 5 draft pick (which at this point would be a good thing) changes have to be made and can not be ignored anymore.

If this was true, the second Brees retired, and especially after CSP left, he would not have doubled down on all of his win now strategies.

He would have committed to some version of a rebuild.

Instead he remained ultra aggressive, went after a QB, f'd the cap even harder, and traded multiple draft picks to try to get better now.

Wrong. People need to stop whatever Joe Blow on the street says. I've heard a lot of people say Mickey inherits the team if Gayle dies and that is public knowledge. NOT true. If they would actually do their research, it is Dennis Laschua who inherits the estate at the time of her passing. So, he needs to right the ship asap.

Holy hell bro, its ok to come out from under his desk for a breath of fresh air sometimes.

Newsflash, he has always been a moron. He struck lightning in a bottle with Sean and Brees at the same time. Individually, I don't think their careers go the same. But together was magic for a while. Literally every other decision he has made has been an utter disaster. Every. Single. One. Zero good contracts, zero good hires (maaayyyybe Ireland???, but he mostly sucks too), zero good fires. Zero good promotions.

You should probably do your research as well.

Lauscha does not inherit her estate.

Lauscha would be the executor of the Estate. His orders are to sell the team within 5 years to someone that will keep it in NOLA, and then distribute the funds to local charities.

Loomis IS IN THE WILL as well. He and Greg Bensel would be executors if Lauscha is no longer around or cannot perform his duties.

Under Loomis the Saints have been like the guy who grows up dirt poor, then becomes wealthy, then faces a situation where he may lose that wealth and starts making irrational decisions in an effort to never go back to being poor again. Often time those decision end with the guy going to prison.

The Saints were terrible for most of their existence prior to 2006. Then, they because "wealthy" in terms of success for the next 15 years. As Brees got older and everyone knew the end was near Loomis went "all in" on trying to get another ring (and should have in 2018!). But once Brees, then Payton left, it was time to start over again. Loomis didn't want to accept that reality though. He did not want to return to the bad years with a 1/2 empty Superdome. So he kept buying guys he couldn't afford hoping to prolong the fall, all while knowing it was unlikely to lead to championship success. Now, that fall is coming soon (if not already here) and Loomis's actions have made it more difficult to rebuild quickly.
