The one where he said "If you injure Michael Crabtree and Alex Smith, Jonathan Vilma will pay you $10,000?"

Yeah, I missed that. And so did you.

Intent is all the league needs.

Again, harsh penalty but not unwarranted as many here suggest.

So Payton and the players are responsible for GW's big mouth? GW talking shite does not prove intent of the players, and a statistical analysis of the number of players that were injured by the Saints defense in that 3 year span bears that out. We were actually below average in terms of opposing player injuries, but we need not look at facts do we?

Nice diversion from the topic. Congrats on your recent success. I certainly expect competitive games to continue between our teams, but its time for your fanbase to move on from the blame Goodell bs.

Payton is. He's the head coach.

Just the way it is ... I think even Coach Payton appreciates and understands this.

This thread has tanked quickly - so on that note, I'll offer up my 2 cents.

"Does anyone here honestly think Goodell cost the Saints a Superbowl"?

This question is impossible to answer. Were the penalties harsh, yes. But we've all hashed this out a million times over. They were excessive because the Saints were used as a whipping boy to send a message to the rest of the NFL. Were you guys cheating? Not really, but you were doing something that most other teams were doing but still illegal in the eyes of the NFL. You guys just got made the example. Moving on...

Recent history shows that you guys probably would've had a slightly better record than this years but nothing was assured even if SP was there to coach all season. AND even if you had made the playoffs, please see what happened the last 2 years. Again, nothing was for sure. You could've lost to any of the playoff teams this year. Who knows...

Completely agree and that's basically what Payton meant in his "apology."

Right... which, in my opinion ... if people want to hold a silent grudge against Goodell, go ahead.

But all of this incessant whining (as it comes across to the rest of the nation) is not helpful at this point.

I think most people get it now that a lot of Saints fans don't like Goodell ... no need to beat a dead horse.

I agree. He definitely cost us a "shot" at a superbowl but there is no telling how things would have gone differently with Payton here.

My guess is that we would have made the playoffs but anything could have happened in the playoffs. We went into the playoffs on fire in 2011 and still lost to the 49'ers.

you mean audio? That game has never been under investigation by the NFL

Also, there are direct quotes from other teams admitting to bounties they put on opposing players. Where is the punishment from that? Also, please link me to your evidence that the Saints ran a bounty program for 3 years (which basically got changed to 2 games during all the hearings and appeals)

You've made it obvious that you have no idea what you are talking about, so quit embarrassing yourself and save us the time. You can't bring a knife to gunfight

Oooh. You are so badass. I don't know what I was thinking.

Its been pointed out time and time again that any person with any intelligence at all concedes the year ban was overkill. Doesn't change the fact your own coach has admitted mistakes multiple times. All anyone has said is move on accept some responsiblity. Pointing fingrrs and crying only makes it worse for you.

Falcon fans can't pull the "Haha we're in the Super Bowl card" so they are back to piling on in the bounty discussion. Saints were so dirty and even though the Falcons are their hated rival and played twice a year there isn't one piece of video of a dirty play on a Falcons player. But "Oh, they are so dirty and deserved massive punishment!"

no one argues that a pay for performance program existed. that does not equal bounties

I think we've moved on fine. Most people are capable of holding more than 1 thought in their head at a time. I know you're still butthurt about the choke job last week, but it may be time for you to move on and quit trolling threads.
