I may be in minority, but Smith and Duece both know what is on the banned substance list. They cant cop the "I didnt know" because thats exactly what Barry Bonds did.

If they know whats on banned substance list and still took that then they should be suspended. The league hands out a list of banned substances every year and has programs set up to inform players/agents/coaches/GM's.

So the "i didnt know" excuse does not fly with me, suspend them there 4 games and make the best. A cheat is a cheat, had this been Randy Moss/TO majority of you would be pleading for longer suspensions. But fact its Saints players we are claiming its unfair based on reputation.

thats fair, however the banned substance isn't necessarily "cheating"
they didn't get caught using steroids for performance enhancing reasons.. they took a damn water pill to lose weight and is only banned because they say it can be used for people taking steroids not to get caught.

so i agree with your logic of they should know what's banned and what's not so it's their fault.. but i'm not going to consider them "a cheat"

deuce looks smaller than ever. if anything he could use some anabolics and forget this weight loss stuff..

it's funny how when this story first broke out the headlines were directly linking the two to STEROIDS.. now they are getting it correct by labeling it "banned substance"

If any of you guys think you could ask Deuce McAllister or Will Smith what's banned in the NFL and they'd tell you every single substance, you're an idiot.

I doubt these guys thought anything was wrong with it, and seeing that both of them took the same thing for the same reason, I'd say the training staff is to blame.

I do believe before an athlete regardless of sport should ask the training staff before taking.
It is obvious they took these substances on their own accord. Your right they might not know everything on the list but they can obtain a copy of list and look it up for themselves. Being lazy is no excuse cause now its going to cost them 4 pay checks and possibly future earnings.
You cant blame the training staff cause they do not know what these guys are putting in their body all the time. And its probably like asking a kid if he ate the candy, they gonna say no and dont know how it got their. Come on deny deny deny till you die... its our motto when we know we busted.

the "list" is available freely to all players, hell it's posted in the training room.

They get what they deserve. rules are rules and they broke them. To just blame to training staff is a straight up joke. Players are responsible for what they put in their bodies. I for one won't give them a pass. They let their teammates, organization and fans down bigtime

So when you guys are given a prescription by a doctor, you look at everything in it? NO. It's the same thing. 3 players that were having weight problems all took the same pills and didn't look at the contents of the pills cause they probably trusted our training staff.

Yeah, sure they're professional athletes, but the training staff is also comprised of professionals, so why should the players not be able to trust them?

Who the frick said these were given to them by the team? Because they WERE NOT given to them by the team. Damn I love the Saints too, esp Duece but whatever happened to personal responsability?

Wild theory here, maybe somebody else has raised this: is the league hyping this now to promote the London game? Brits are probably more interested in sports doping in general than Saints football, so why not get some buzz going so people tune in to the game on tv to see who the roid freaks are? (I know roids is not at issue here). This would artificially boost the ratings -- all of this on the theory that all publicity is good publicity.

The article on cbs sportsline 4-5 saints players tested positive. Wonder if it's a team thing? There is a little thing called a HIPPA violation that has been done here also.

As weird as this is with all heavy players taking it and for obvious reasons ( to lose weitght), I think the NFL won't suspend all these guys. They will probably get a hefty fine though. It's just too many guys with the same issue, weight. Maybe, let's just hope this is what happens.

If the diuretics weren't prescribed by a doctor than it doesn't violate any HIPPA violations. I don't think deuce or grant were prescribed to Bumetanide.
