Gus wanted more and thought he was bigger than the organization. He wanted to be the replacement for Jim Hawthorne when he retires next year.

I can't believe this is happening but i'm going to agree with Alejandro.....I hate Deke Belevia....he's as dumb and uninformative as Hokie Gajan and that's bad...Deke is an absolute a-hole to most callers and last night, for the umpteenth time, I listened to Deke try to pick a mean-spirited argument with a nice caller calling in with his predictions on the Preakness....the caller sounded like a 100 year old man and was really polite and Deke was in his usual bad mood and was really rude with the old man.....Deke said something like this after interrupting the guy's short statement, "I tell you what...since your such an expert on horseracing why don't you just give your picks so we could get to more callers."....

....Deke is such a dickhead...i'm not a super tough guy but i wouldn't mind taking on Deke in a fight.....i don't think he could back up his dickheadness with good fighting.....he's completely protected by the radio....most people don't even know what the fat-arse looks like...

....Gus got screwed...he was great to listen to...high energy, good natured guy who gave always gave the listeners quality information to think about, unlike the two regular dunmfricks, Hokie and Deke...

.....I'll never forget at the beginning of the season Hokie told Jim Henderson during training camp something like, "I just don't see anything that tells me Pierre Thomas deserves to make this team." the Jim said, "Hokie...there's no way in hell the Saints are cutting Pierre Thomas."...then Hokie went on some more about how Pierre is a very impressive running back...
.....Towards the end of the season when Pierre was kicking arse, i heard Deke turn to Hokie and say something like, "After all the people that doubted Pierre Thomas, Hokie, you and I were always by his side from day one." And Hokie then went on a little rant about what a special running back he knew Pierre would become.
....Hokie is not only an uninformative moron, but he's a fricking liar too....

....I love WWL but I hate Deke and his overly done Cajun accent and mean-streak..

....I can't believe the Saints actually made Hokie a scout....you can pick any random Saints fan and he or she would have made a better scout than Hokie Gajan....

First Dawn Brown , now this . Loved Bobby Hebert the football player . He has as much business being a talkshow host as me working on the hubble . He makes Deke look intelligent .

From someone in the business.. I ask you LSUfan..Would you know good sports radio? Your right about keeping some idiot callers short, we do it to. We also treat people with respect and not try and dumb them down.

And for the guy who said Gus wanted to replace Jim Hawthorne, it couldnt be any further than the truth.

I have had Gus on my show every week for 3 years and the reason I did is because I thought he was the best on the station.

now after seeing Deke's picture, I hate him even more.....I hate his fake over-done cajun accent too.....I hate the horrible attitude Deke shows toward the callers(some nights are worst than others depending on the mood).....he sucks as a radio commentator and he sucks as a person.....i, along with most Saints fans who listen to WWL, would rather hear more of Gus Kattengell and Mike Detillier than the two fat uninformative retards, Deke and Hokie....I can barely deal with Bobby...he reminds me of my know-it-all next door neighbor who seems to not know how to shut up....WWL Radio sucks because we always have to hear a-hole Deke Belavia every time we turn on the freakin radio...put Mike Detillier and Gus Kattengell(I know he's gone) in Deke and Bobby's spot and the show would improve dramatically.....Deke sucks...

It's simple for me, if Deke is on I listen to something else. I know I'll miss out on a few good callers this way, but his attitudes and opinions rarely agree with mine and if he was to treat someone that rudely on the street he would be another statistic in NOLA.

That's the reality. They let total chumps like Bob Del in the morning report sports and he doesn't even watch the games and has no clue what he's saying.

Gus was one of the good guys so I'm not shocked WWL canned him. I love Hebert as he doesn't feel compelled to always be PC. If it weren't for that I probably wouldn't listen to them at all. Someone needs to enter this market with an actual sports network. I'm floored we have had such little to listen to for so long. Maybe Cat can get something going.

Jaydeaux, Sorry If i came across to strong, I wasnt saying he doesnt know good sports radio. Your right for the most part MOST people who listen to sports talk nationally are college educated and make around 80k. Thats according to the ESPN research we got. Do i think WWL is good? Well I think Bobby gives it some credibility considering he played in the league and I thought Gus sounded the most polished. thats about it.

One thing about this job i have learned is EVERYBODY who is a sportsfan thinks they can do it and fact is not everybody can. Sure I think alot more people can do it than become a Dr. or Lawye, it is just sports after all. However can you be entertaining when the red light comes on for x amount of time. Sure you might know sports but can you keep peoples attention. We have some folks who are great callers in 10-15 mintue segments but couldnt host an entire 3 hour show. Look some people love my show, some people dont. It comes with the territory.

Back to what i asked LSUFAN, do you know good sports radio? Well everyone has an opinion on what is good sports radio. I guess a better question JAYDEAUX should have been, what do you think makes good sports radio?


I dont claim to know more than you, Im just a fan who got lucky enough to get paid to talk about sports. We have a phone call based show, sure we have some national ESPN guests and local coaches but its based on the people and thats why my show works. Is WWL doing that, well I dont live there anymore but between tigerdroppings and Saintsreport it doesnt sound like it.

Sorry for the rant and geux tigers/saints!!!!

BTW Im from Mandeville and my parents still live there.
