Have you watched the Cowboys in the last 10 years? They are more than capable of falling apart. Don't let last season fool you into thinking otherwise.

I think they are the least dysfunctional team in that division, though.

I don't think Coughlin has any more tricks. They need to be blown up.

Chip Kelly is probably already updating his resume for a college job next year.

The Redskins will find a way to frick things up.

At this point I agree with you, and I'm not saying it's likely that things fall apart, but you have to consider their track record and it ain't good.

On a side note, I think NY could end up winning that division despite starting 0-2 because of how banged up Dallas is. They are much more stable than Philly or Washington even if you think Coughlin is washed up.

Perhaps NYG could be a potential destination for him. I mean he thinks he's Bill Parcells Jr. anyway, New York City would be the perfect challenge for his post-SBXLIV ego.

But i still don't think Payton is a bigger trading chip than Drew Brees, so my answer to your technical question is no.

Given Brees' contract I'd say that Payton could be more valuable than Brees (unless Brees reworked his deal with new team prior to trade)

Trade Payton and Brees to the Jets for two 1sts and a 2nd and 3rd this year, hire Pagano.

a team closer to winning then the Saints. More established QB to work with, better weapons.

Closer to family, perhaps in Dallas?

in the end, he might not even have a say

Man...if everyone wants to skewer Byrd. Wait til Cruz comes, it'll be an onslaught.

Those are a lot of maybes. Typically, a trade happens when a team and coach mutually don't want to coexist. If the Saints are ready to make a move, Payton knows that and would rather control his destiny...and he isn't going to want to give up a draft asset from his new team.

I could be wrong, but I didn't think trades of coaches worked like that. I didn't think the contract transferred. Payton would have agree to a contract with the new team as I understood it.

I'm not saying that.

I can come up with a plausible explanation as to why the Saints would be ok with it. I don't think it's a given by any stretch that they would want to, but if they decided they were in rebuilding mode, ok. That's reasonable.

I'm just struggling to see what Payton gets out of the deal. Maybe Benson dies and he's not too happy with the organizational structure of the franchise? And, anything is better than here? He's not so old that he's feeling the pressure of his age.

Yes. I think we could get more picks for him than any one else.

Trade Payton to the Colts in the off-season. He gets to coach Luck so he would agree to it.

Why not? We've seemingly done it with half of the players in the league at this point
