Yhis is the problem with strict adherance to the best player available principle. Sometimes it puts you in a no win situation. A better way to approach decision making is best player available that can improve your team the most.

Considering Brees was coming off a serious arm injury, and they had just drafted a future all-pro in Rivers, you can't fault them at all.

They didn't cut/release Brees. He was a free agent and they werent going to pay #1 QB money to both guys.

I'd say Rivers has performed to their expectations. I don't think SD is crying about not having Brees. I'm glad we have him, though.

Yeah I dont think the chargers mind that much because it was a pretty good deal for both teams. Drew was damaged goods at the time and a major risk that obviously panned out for us, and they got their McDouche at QB who isnt that bad, so I dont think they mind.

Rivers is a pompous arse, but a good quarterback. I don't like the way they treated our boy, but Rivers is doing a good job for them.

Rivers is a good QB, but if Big Ben wins his 2nd Super Bowl, and Eli already has his and about to get a new MEGA-deal, the comparisons are gonna start soon.

If I was the Chargers I'd rather have Rivers, if I was the Saints I'd rather have Brees.

Though aside from posting prettier stats, what more has Brees accomplished? The Saints went to the NFC CG his first year, but have not made the playoffs the last 2 years. SD has made the playoffs all 3 years including 1 trip to the AFC CG.

Well, there QB was the best QB in the NFL last year so, no, I dont think they realize that.

Plus Rivers is 3 years younger.

Chargers let go of the wrong man but it was a blessing in disguise for us. Not only does Drew put up the numbers but he is a team leader, respected in the locker room and on the field, plus a humanitarian for N.O. community. Rivers can't even get along L.T. let alone anybody else in that locker room.

I think they were happy to release him when his future was suspect, but I think that on his huuuuge passing days when he's just blowing up the stats, Chargers fans cringe watching his highlights on Sportscenter. Still, I'm sure they know Rivers is no slouch.
