public transportation is a good thing, dude. When you don't have it, you get 70 dollar cab rides as the OP points out.

Some observations...
Buffalo wings at Anchor Bar were great (also ate them while watching the Tigers).
Beef on Weck is overrated. Roast beef at Parasol's blows it away.
Pearl Street Brewery is the only decent bar in the downtown area. Good beer and a civilized crowd.
The bums in Buffalo are very aggressive.
Niagara Falls was definitely worth the side trip.
The tailgating scene was impressive but the fans were savages (don't expect any good-natured taunting and invitations to talk football). We were warned earlier in the day at our hotel and didn't pay any heed. Saw several violent altercations in our section.
Not a bad experience but would do it differently next time (stay in Toronto and drive to Buffalo for the game).

I was up theree for a game in 1985 and it was like that then, except we were there in November and it was cold as hell on top of everything else.

In the mid '80s SNL did a sketch called Buffalo Vice. While the "Miami Vice" theme plays you see two fat detectives in leisure suits take the bus in the middle of a blizzard to investigate crimes at various Buffalo bowling alleys...
