Well, that's a bit of a canned answer.

That won't be a big help.

Indeed, the NFLPA doesn’t want the cap to ever spike, since a spike would be unfair to the players who did long-term deals under a lower cap in the prior year. The union instead prefers a “smoothing” of the cap, with steady, gradual, predictable growth.

quote:

Every dollar spent now eventually must be accounted for under the salary cap. And if the cap will only be growing by, for example, 1.9 percent in 2013, pushing too many cap dollars into the future will eventually force teams to make tough decisions.

quote:

For example, the Saints went “cash over cap” last year by paying quarterback Drew Brees a total of $40 million, even though his cap number was nearly one fourth of that, at $10.4 million. But the remaining $29.6 million will hit the cap later.

For Brees, the piper will be paid in 2015, when the Saints will carry a $26.4 million cap number for a 36-year-old quarterback. The next year, the cap number will be $27.4 million. Even if there’s a “restructuring,” those dollars will still hit the cap, eventually (unless Brees agrees to reduce his salary in either year).

there isn't 1 player in the NFL not willing to restructure a contract. It is beneficial to the player because he gets the money up front as a signing bonus.

Restructure =/ reduced pay

Better question is who did Kristian blow to get Drew's number?

they are being asked to reduce, not necessarily restructure. Chew on it.

Restructure what? You cannot restructure that beast of a contract. You just can't. He fricked himself teamwise and will play with mediocre to substandard teammates the rest of his career because of it.

I hope he waits until after a Ryan extension and then takes a pay cut.

What?

Restructure equals more guaranteed money.

Or is my meter broken.

I heard Mike on WWL talking about the same thing. Said the way his contract was structured it would not be doable(I dont know why) for a couple of years.

I'll try that on my employees!

Sometimes players restructure and its just a transfer of salary to guaranteed money (ex lofton)

Sometimes players restructure cause they aren't worth the value of their current deals and agree to it cause it may be a better option than getting cut.
