Because the Saints made defenses respect the run game in 2009. Obviously that isn't happening now. Respect the run, play-action opens up more in the pass game. That simple.

t, defenses are going to just do what Tampa did yesterday

What INTs were thrown because "tampa was sitting on our pass plays"?

Brees has 7 or 8 INTs and 2, maybe 3 have been his fault. A few on tip balls, 1 or 2 on wrong route running.

Not because teams are "sitting on our passes". He's completing nearly 70% of his passes. Obviously it isnt that easy to just "sit on our passing game".

but we cant..and teams are starting to figure this out..thats why we are starting to struggle even throwing the ball....except to Graham.

3 interceptions yesterday

It doesn't do any good to rack up a bunch of yards and not win the game

The point is that when you throw the ball 44 times a game, interceptions start to become almost inevitable.

Tipped balls and bad route running are part of the game

i dont agree that it is a problem, and i have been someone that has asked to run the ball more in the past.

i dont think our running game is quite as bad as it has been. We just havent went to the ground because we have been so effective passing the ball.

we've been moving the ball up and down the field with the pass. Short passes have taken over for our running game, and they have been working the majority of the time.

you cant be afraid to throw the ball because of this. all our players have been in the offense for a long time. That shouldn't be happening. You expect to execute; can't expect anything less.

Our big problem have been stalling in the redzone. And yesterday the turnovers. I wont even get into the problems on defense. Our offense is under the microscope because at this point it is the only reason we win games.

Our 3rd down conversions have been great. Just stalling in redzone, settling for FG instead of TDs.

Yeah. More confidence in the running game might help there.

Pretty much everything you said just confirmed why we need a more established run, gj there.

If you don't see how the run game can open our passing up even more, then you're ignorant as frick. More can go wrong in the passing game when you're throwing 44 times a game. Even if it is "taking over the short run game". Use your damn common sense. This isn't Madden.

We won the superbowl because teams had to respect the run. When the Saints needed to run, they could establish it and it opened up the vertical game. Brees didn't have to press as much. He can't do it by himself EVERY game.

we are 2nd overall in the league in total yards

we are 6th in points scored. Rougly 2 points per game behind the 09 team.

sorry if i dont think the world is ending.

What exactly hasnt worked out in the passing game? What needs to be opened up? We are getting explosive plays. Not only on passes that are thrown deep down field, but on short passes by guys like Darren Sproles.

things can also go wrong in the run game. Like if you run it on 1st and 2nd down and you get 3 yards total and put us in 3rd and long all day.

Dont give me the Madden bullshite. That is my quote.

I can't believe no one is bringing up our defense as a main influence on us not running the ball.

I think both Brees and Payton do not trust this defense and so they constantly feel like they are in comeback or survival mode and their instinct when their backs are against the wall is to pass the football, because they trust in the golden arm more then anything else on the team.

if this trend continues we are on the fast track to 8-8 or 9-7 season.

Can't win in this league consistently with that many attempts because it usually means you're behind and your forcing things and have multiple ints.

I don't think we threw 44/ game last year? Not sure about don't think it was that high. Still outside of one year's performance which is more likely an aberration its not a good strategy. See 07 and 08.

We would have made playoffs in 08 if not for FG kicking

The point about Ivory not making an immediate impact because his success was based on our O line help is flat out wrong. If you watch 99% of his highlights, he is pushing the line forward, trucking defenders and getting to the outside almost entirely on his own. If the only thing that changes between now and the next Tampa game is adding Ivory back, we win because of him.

I think the lack of a running game is moreso contributed to the poor play of the offensive line not controlling the LOS than anything. The Saints line are getting manhandled on damn near every running play called.

We just got off of a 4 game win streak. Some people overreact. Damn!
