Nah "cover" safety just means he has man to man cover skills. He's basically a smaller/quicker Vaccaro.

It's ambiguous, but cover safety usually means one that can play deep cover.

If they can play man they usually say man safety.

He's actually a cover and man safety. Which we need bad.

I thought so to, until I watched them break it down on television last night. Cover safety, box safety, rover safety/deep safety (more traditional) are all now considered different abilities.

That's why I said usually. Not everyone uses the same terms.

But regardless Bell can play man and zone. He wasn't an almost staight nickel like Vaccaro was.

I disagree with the comment that Byrd has great instincts. When you look at the film over again, he constantly takes horrible angles and whiffs on tackles. He brings himself away from the ball carrier and out of plays. Couple that with his injury problems, and he just hasn't been a very good player for us in any way.

I'm not going to judge byrd based off the fact that he had two liability #2 corners he's had to work with his tenure here. Can't make plays if your job is to mop up someone's trash

Yes Byrd has had bad teammates to work with, but that doesn't excuse poor angles and showing no football instincts and low football IQ. He is the opposite of an instinctual player such as Tyrann Mathieu.

Vonn Bell is actually very similar to Daimian Swann, so I can see where Bell will be extremely active in the nickle role.
