Can someone explain how we're gonna draft the Heisman winner at the end of the first round?

Manziel won a heisman and look where he went. Most mocks have Mayfield around 15-20 but I wouldn’t be surprised to see him drop.

Manziel was a bit of an outlier, especially for a QB.

Mayfield has done minimally dumb things, but he's nowhere near the walking tabloid that Johnny Football was in college.

I think a team like Jacksonville has a good chance to get him. But if he falls to us or close I’m fine with taking him.

Jackson, Rosen and Darnold likely go before him. This mock has him at Jax fwiw LINK

Kansas players refused to shake his hands before the game and were jackasses during it.

I don't condone what he did(but I don't see it as that big a deal)and he apologized.

He's nowhere near JFF

No thanks. He has had a couple of these maturity issues now. As far as i can tell, none of the consistently succesful qbs in the nfl act like that. Doesnt seem to have the maturity itll take to be in the film room as much as he needs to

Hard pass on mayfield. Never been a huge fan of big 12 qbs and he seems like a giant count. There aren't exactly a ton of successful NFL qbs who act like a bitch and have to apologize multiple times per year for their behavior.

This. The Manziel comparisons are dumb. Manziel had substance abuse issues, was a horrible teammate & had a poor work ethic while at Texas A&M. It was well documented that he barely practiced or watched film because Kevin Sumlin let him get away with those things. He also got into a physical altercation with an assistant coach there.

On the other hand, Mayfield is a hard worker. His work ethic is outstanding while spending lots of time perfecting his game & watching film. Yes he is too emotional at times but that can be corrected & lots of time that changes with age. I remember Phillip Rivers getting into it with fans as a young QB but he has since stopped that type of behavior.

With players like this, it's all about the leadership from top to bottom. Payton has a certain way he reaches players that many coaches don't have. You have the ultimate pro in Drew Brees to learn from. It's not always just about the player. Sometimes it's about the environment the player is drafted into that makes or breaks him. If Mayfield were to go to a team that lacks discipline & accountability then he could let his emotions wreck his NFL career but if he goes to a stable organization with good leadership, he could very well turn out to be a great player.

Me either. I have my doubts about the air raid offense & how it doesn't prepare QBs properly for the NFL. With that said, look at some of piss poor organizations that have taken Big XII QBs in the last few years.

Colt McCoy - Browns

Vince Young - Titans (Remember Fisher didn't want him. Owner forced the pick)

Brandon Weeden - Browns

Robert Griffin - Redskins

Bryce Petty - Jets

These are some of the most dysfunctional organizations in all of football. The book is still open on Pat Mahomes but I believe he is one of the most favorable positions with K.C. of any the Big XII QBs drafted in the last few years.

Which conference they come from or how tall or how fast they run the 40 or what round you get them don't mean sh!t.

Drafting top QB's or top CB's is a crap shoot. I have given up trying to project QB's to the pro's. My reason is a road paved with those getting paid 6 figs and fired trying to do so.

You are wrong here. Mayfield is a first player in, last player out the building guy. Don't mistake emotional outburst for him having a poor work ethic. This is false.

This is the truth. Carson Wentz & Steve McNair have proven this to be correct.

Again, sometimes its not always just about the player. Yes, desire plays a big factor. Guys have to want to be great themselves but a shitty organization with a shitty coaching staff can ruin a young QB too.
