Does drafting Porter and his return skills mean Skyler Green has no shot of making this team?

wish we still had a pick in the 3rd...there is so much talent that is dropping....we could get a TE or rb or guard

He looks like a playmaker. The more I read the more I like. And him being able to return punts is huge.

I like the pick, seems to have very good ball skills and helps in the return game No complaints from me on this pick.

That's a pretty big discrepency from the 4.29.

that 4.29 is wrong. i don't think anybody has that

TSN also has porter at 4.41

quote:

POST-DRAFT TAKE: This is a huge gamble because Porter is a much better athlete than cornerback. He struggled to shut down receivers at Indiana and did not display the toughness or aggressiveness as a tackler.

quote:

Strengths: Is a great athlete with rare quickness, agility and speed for such a tall cornerback. Shows loose, fluid hips to turn and run with receivers. Transitions out of backpedal to plant, drive and close explosively on passes in front of him. Has the long arms and body control to reach in front of receivers to break up passes without committing penalties. Stays with fast receivers on deep routes, and shows the burst to catch up after a false step. Shows great hands to make tough interceptions when cutting in front of receivers.

quote:

Weaknesses: Is a better athlete than football player; gets by relying on athleticism instead of technique. Lacks a consistently straight backpedal, and struggles to flip hips when using bad footwork. Does not consistently transition out of backpedal quickly, hindering ability to close. Allows completions on passes he should break up. Does not always compete hard; sometimes is deliberate in run support and often gets blocked

quote:

Bottom line: Porter has the athleticism to be an NFL starter but needs time to improve his technique. He had an excellent week at the Senior Bowl, practicing with great intensity; he did not play with that same fire in college. Porter projects as a good nickel corner who could contribute as a kickoff returner.

that's from TSN

ESPN:

quote:

Porter doesn't have elite bulk, so bigger wideouts are going to be able to push him around, and he's not going to be great in run support. On the flip side, he has good top-end speed and he's a playmaker who does a good job of getting his head turned while tracking the ball downfield. He also the instincts and quickness to mirror receivers underneath. It's also worth pointing out that Porter can contribute as a punt returner

quote:

Strengths: Possesses adequate-to-good height, adequate bulk and outstanding straight-line speed. Has quick feet and fluid hips. Can change directions quickly and displays excellent catch-up burst when the ball is in the air. Shows impressive natural instincts and typically is able to make a quick break on the ball. Does not get caught peeking in the backfield often. He is able to read the QB's eyes and show great anticipation beating the receiver to the spot on underneath routes. Shows very good ball skills, including good timing on leaps and soft hands. Was a major threat with the ball in his hands in college both on interceptions and in the return game. Has the hands, vision and second gear to make an impact on punt returns in the NFL.

quote:

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal strength and only adequate bulk. Not physical enough. Needs to get stronger and tougher in order to hold up in the NFL. Does not support the run nearly as well as his 2007 tackles total (83) would indicate. Looks to avoid contact as much as possible. Will get pushed around at times and struggles to get off of blocks. Also allows bigger receivers to dictate routes.

he's also 5-11. not short like everyone is claiming

The ignorance and stupidity exhibited by the critics of this pick is amazing, but not surprising--ignorant Louisiana sports fans, don't you love'm!

jumping on piles, letting his LBs hit the guy and then running and touching, etc

tackles are subjective stat without official totals, so they can be padded

i just want someone who can cover a WR right now.

If he is shoddy tackler, oh well.
