What were the expectations going into the 2006 season and how are they similar to going into 2025?

1st time HC
Questions at QB (Brees could hardly throw 35 yards to begin the season)
LB questions (2 starters added after the final cuts)

What do you think?

I kinda get that, but although Brees wasn't 100% whe he started , he wasn't a rookie.

Is Moore someone who can lift the team like Payton? Perhaps. We need to wait and see.

Honestly back in that NFC Championship game.
You had Deuce, You had snow.
Just run the ball Payton.

All you had to do was let deuce run down and wear out Urlacher.

Still Burns me to this day.

All I expect for this season is progress to improvement. If anything great comes our way I'll be a happy man.

There’s not that much similarity given that Moore has a very different expectation than Payton. Payton set the standard that had never been set. And Brees was a very good veteran QB with some injury issues. So Payton and everyone wanted to go all out that season and push hard given what the city had been through. I think now Moore and the org are going to take a more measured and slow approach to team building (thus why they didn’t get a veteran QB). I think in 2-3 years we’ll be looking to make a run but not this year.

Well Shough is about the same age when Brees arrived. But Brees was already a pro bowl player by then.

Questions at QB (Brees could hardly throw 35 yards to begin the season)

58 starts (30-28 3x playoffs appearances)
12,348 yards
83 touchdowns

Hindsight tells us the extent of Brees injury was overblown…

NFC wasn’t that good we were 10-6 and had a bye

We didn’t draft Kellen Clemens or Tarvaris Jackson(2nd round QBs drafted that year)in the 2nd round to be our future Quarterback either… CSP line of thinking would have Rodgers, Darolnd, Gino Smith, Wilson, etc. at QB

Reggie Bush and Drew Brees brought some excitement and optimism. No one really knew who CSP was

This year brings more anxiety and fear of the unknown. Shough being good would go a long way to restore some excitement
