Anyone have a pic ? My friend says Taysom was out of the pocket and the ball had not been thrown so there should be no flag .

No picture, but that is accurate

so when a qb is outside the pocket you can cut down all the receivers ?

Only if he hadn’t let go of the ball. Once he lets go of the ball it is pass interference

You can block them but you can’t clip them in the back

If that's true then why don't defenders immediately tackle a nearby WR when the second a QB rolls out? There's no frickin way that's the rule.

Official NFL rulebook on NFL.com
quote:
Defensive pass interference rules apply from the time the ball is thrown until the ball is touched.
Taysom was deep into his throwing motion when Apple ran through Kamara (I think Kamara was the intended target)... but the ball was still in his hand
if Apple times the hit even a hair slower... it's DPI b/c the ball is out of Taysom's hand

5 yard rule may apply there; I recall saints doing something several years ago against TB and being praised for the smart play

so here's the illegal contact rule regarding the 5 yard "chuck" rule
but I would be almost certain it would qualify as illegal contact... that deep into the play Kamara (or whoever the intended receiver was) absolutely had to have broken contact with Apple by that point
quote:
ARTICLE 1. LEGAL CONTACT WITHIN FIVE YARDS
Within the area five yards beyond the line of scrimmage, a defensive player may chuck an eligible receiver in front of him. The defender is allowed to maintain continuous and unbroken contact within the five-yard zone, so long as the receiver has not moved beyond a point that is even with the defender.
quote:
ARTICLE 2. ILLEGAL CONTACT WITHIN FIVE YARDS
Within the five-yard zone, if the player who receives the snap remains in the pocket with the ball, a defender may not make original contact in the back of a receiver, nor may he maintain contact after the receiver has moved beyond a point that is even with the defender.
Note: If a defender contacts a receiver within the five-yard zone of the line of scrimmage, loses contact, and then contacts him again within the five-yard zone, it is a foul for illegal contact.

after reading the rules... the situation you're presenting would be either defensive holding or illegal contact (depending on if the receiver is yanked or shoved)

I think the reason there was no PI bc it looked like Taysom was throwing at the feet of Kamara. I think if he had thrown it chest high, there would have been a call.
