Buried in his story about Doc.

The New Orleans Pelicans are planning to interview Lue in the near future too, sources said. Lue and Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin have strong ties, most notably working together to win an NBA title with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.

Translation: Griff’s going to get me paid by the Clippers.

Sounds like it. Or the Rockets.

I kind of feel like Griff is pursuing Doc and Lue, outside of the comfortability, because other teams want them and he always needs to be selling and trying to prove we are a better situation.

Let those dudes go elsewhere. Let’s focus on actual real candidates.

Near future? His team was eliminated over 2 weeks ago. Gentry was fired over 6 weeks ago. Does Griffin have an idea who he is interested in or just waiting for the market to play out with the hotter candidates so he can see what is left?

Griffin’s approach to this whole thing has been a bit inexplicable to me but we have to see what the end result is.

He is raising our profile though. We were in the conversation with big name FAs like Horford and now top coaching candidates. Before too long people might start believing the Pels are a middle tier organization instead of a bottom 5 you shouldn’t even pick up the phone for.

He definitely is. He’s a really good salesman for sure. I think he’s a good executive.

But I kinda feel like with a HC, you be aggressive. You immediately go after who you want and you go try and get them.

This search feels very very passive.

Let's hope that's not the case. If someone like Doc is his 1st choice (not saying it would be mine), you would hope he would make a run at him not just let him go somewhere else and settle with the bottom of the barrel. Make a hard push if you want him. And just from a coaching standpoint, I wouldnt consider Phily as the better option.

In the near future... I have to wonder if his agent is putting out this information to force the Clippers to make a formal offer.

It is interestingly worded. Probably to stop the Clippers from going through a long process like other teams have.

To most of us Doc/Lue isn't swinging for the fences, but from a coaches market perspective it is. I think he's trying to get what he sees as the highest quality coach he can, just like he's done with the rest of the organization.

I really don't understand the impatience from most fans here. It'd be one thing if this were a normal year and there were only a handful of quality candidates, but there's a ton of quality coaches on the market this year, and so far none of the coaches hired or expected to go next were even on the market when they fired Gentry. This is absolutely the year to take your time and take your shots, because there's a lot more to fall back on than normal if you miss.

For me I just believe in being aggressive in this type of hire. If you're going to fire someone, you should already have a good idea of who you want. Interview 5-10 people via Zoom.

Then go fricking get the guy you want. Go get him. Now. Fly to his city. Get him on a plane to yours. Make him a priority and then get him.

I'd say he is going after the guy he wants. If Lue would have reportedly been hired during the season, then Lue is who Griff wants. I'm sure Griff would be outside of Lue's house holding a boom box if that would help, but Lue has choices so you have to let it play out.

This is so depressing. Hiring Lue is basically pissing away another fricking star player(s). Mark my words.

If that were the case, why would be not be being aggressive for who he wants? For instance, if it were Doc, why let him go to Philly while he waits to "begin" his search? If it were Lue, why wait over 2 weeks to plan to interview him in the "near future." It is giving the impression that he does not have someone he really wants or he is waiting for the market to define itself. Or is he waiting for Kidd and going to really screw this up?

The Pels were one of the first teams leaked to have called Doc.

Griff talked to him in the Bubble.

I feel like y'all are trying to have your cake and eat it too. Griff appears to be aggressively going after the guys he wants most but we aren't their first choice so we have to wait if that's who we want. What more can he do but try like hell to get in the room?

Now I get the impatience. Yes, it would be nice to know for sure that Kidd was not in play. I feel better seeing the coaching search "start" as soon as Denver got out of the Bubble.

It may not be the case, but with the level of secrecy, the search feels reactionary instead of proactive.

It feels like we are waiting for other teams to make their decisions and we are waiting to pick up the scraps.

That may not be the case, but it sort of feels that way.

We’ll find out when they actually schedule official interviews. If they really only have 2-3 candidates in mind, it’ll be easy to see what kind of coach they’re looking for.. retread, up and coming assistant, or somebody out of left field. Until we see who these 2-3 guys they’re looking to interview are, I’ll reserve judgement and let the process take place.

Have we heard anything from OKC or Indy's searches either? I know MDA was rumored for Indy right after Houston got bounced, but haven't heard anything since then.

OKC has been pretty quiet but there’s some rumbling about Spurs assistant Will Hardy.

The Pacers are just interviewing anyone and everyone. No idea what direction they’ll go.
