This is true. He did show up right around the time that Benson became a viable option.

His horrendous contract is the biggest reason why they are dumping him. Otherwise they would expect equal talent in return.

your logic has no logic

"bad" contracts aren't the only reason why guys get shipped for pennies on the dollar

Name another player who got shipped for little in return without their contract being a major part of it.

Charlotte has shown interest in Gay and moving the 2nd pick.

Exactly what I was about to say. I doubt we'd able to match what other teams are going to offer.

The Bobcats may not trade the second overall pick, but it won’t be for lack of trying. In recent weeks, Charlotte has been in contact with a number of teams and they’ve made it clear that the No. 2 pick is available. However, multiple league sources have said that the Bobcats are looking for a lot in return. They would like to add a face of the franchise player, which is why they’ve reportedly expressed interest in young stars like Rudy Gay and James Harden

even if it is the contract, we don't have the other big contracts like the grizz, and won't until gay's deal is done, basically. then his contract is going to be valuable as an expiring to make another deal for a "bad" contract

in the end, it's just money. if spending money is going to be a problem, then we as fans need to step back and realize the hornets' peak will be much less than the top

taking on "bad" deals is how good teams improve the talent and basketball play on their team. this is going to HAVE to be an avenue for this team, b/c we don't exist in a deisrable city and free agency has historically been hard on the hornets

I'm sorry. I don't buy this for multiple reasons. First, the status quo was changed significantly by the new CBA. The new CBA makes those shitty deals even shittier. You keep saying that Gay's deal would be an asset in year 3, but then again, Kaman's was supposed to be, as well.

Okay, I'll try another question:

the thunder are in the finals after acquiring perkins an his bad deal

the mavs had about 4-5 on the books last year (with cuban's spending, they're kind of an outlier)

the lakers won 2 titles before that after getting the final piece in gasol

boston took on TWO (KG, Allen) the offseason before it won its title

I think you're reaching there. Just because Boston couldn't afford to pay Perkins and the Big 3 doesn't mean his contract is bad. Perkins has a reasonable contract, especially considering it was done prior to the new CBA. $7 million is the new going rate for averagish defensive centers. Perkins is considered a slightly better than averagish defensive center and is making $8 million per.

And OKC also gave up a promising young player in Jeff Green to get Perkins. Green's heart defect has changed hindsight on the deal.

Celtics, Lakers, and Mavs are 3 of the 4 teams with the deepest pockets in the NBA. The Lakers will pay taxes out of the arse for the next few years unless they blow it up. The Mavs run ended after 1 year. The Celtics are the Celtics.

And be replaced by which legit center? I know some people don't like to believe it, but Okafor is probably one of the most important players on our roster right now.

Seriously? Smith is as much of a legit C as Okafor is. He Is an undersized at C w/ poor hands and poor offensive game. I have never seen someone that big rarely attack the rim and force the defender to stop him.

I don't think Okafor's contract gets an amnisty, but agree taht he's not "one of the most important players on our roster". IMO & FWIW, I'd rather keep Kaman than Okafor. (I'd really rather make a huge push for Hibbert. Or at least try to get someone young and upcoming like Hawes.)

It's not going to happen. As it stands, Okafor is the only true center on our roster. We're hoping J-Smoove and Davis can play some center, but Okafor is the only proven bulk 5 on our roster, which is something you need if even just to defend and rebound the post.

This board is infatuated with obtaining Rudy Gay and to a lesser extent Andre Iguodola.
