Why Is This Team Always Referred to as NOH or NOP In Box Scores?

They are the only team that does this. The Saints don't go by NOS in the box scores so why do the Hornets/Pelicans?

It's different with LAL and LAC because they have 2 teams. NYK is never in the box scores. It was just a logo they started using in the late 90s on their shorts.
50? He'd wear 20 or 52. Where are you getting 50?

Most boxscore abbreviations of cities are three letters: MIA, ATL, CHI, etc...
Cities like New York, LA, New Orleans, etc are abbreviated to include the first letter of their team name to make the 3rd letter.

Why does the NBA do this and not the NFL then?

I've seen wallet sized NFL schedules with NOS on them.

Because to fit hornets in the box scores it wold be "Horn." and that's just silly

Pro Football Reference uses 3-letter abbreviations "NOR" and "SFO" for two worded cities like New Orleans & San Francisco.
