Why are the traded picks in the draft announced to original team?

When 8th and 17th pick we’re announced they were for the hawks and the nets? They even handed him a Nets hat knowing that is a NO pick.

The trade isn’t official yet. Can be traded when the league year starts July 6.

Not official until the 6th.
I actually think this is good for the picks though because they will get introduced separate from Zion and not have the spotlight taken away from them. Next few days is all about Zion though.

Then the trade is off or I suppose you could renegotiate but nobody would.. And nobody would ever trade a draft pick with you again.

It is ridiculous to have those guys on TV with the wrong hats on. There must be a huge contract with the hat company.

It’s incredibly stupid
I think the technical reason is LAL can’t officially pick up rookie options on Ingram and Lonzo until the 6th and as such they can’t trade a player they don’t have under contract.

The nba gets a lot of things right but for the average casual fan - player movement appears to be a cluster frick.
The draft pick trades, a lot of free agency/exemptions/cap...
If you aren’t an nba fan but are in Nola and want to enjoy the big night; the leagues created a lot of hurdles

What’s the advantage to structuring this way?
