We lost these players...in return for Okafor, EG...who most of you feel confident on his return. I've heard otherwise. He is good when healthy.

How do you propose he leaves? He's a restricted free agent which means the second he signs with another team, the Hornets will match it. Hell, even if he turns down every outside offer, his rights are still owned by the hornets for another year. 0% chance this guy is in another uniform unless Hornets choose to trade him.

There is no doubt that AD is good, but I don't see greatness in him. I see a complimentary player, not the floor general. I don't see a leader.

Davis' floor is the same as the rest of the top 5's ceiling. He is likely to be much better than everyone else which is why he's a consensus number 1 amongst GMs according to Chad Ford.

quote:

People are over valuing Davis to such a degree that even swapping one spot could net the Hornets 3 future first rounder’s (all of which would likely be lottery picks).

It's iffy since Jordan is such a bad owner, but Charlotte needs talent at every position. They would be insane to trade up and then not have a 1st in 2013, 2015 and 2017. At the very least they'd make them top 5 - 10 protected and if they did that, what's the point for the Hornets? I just think it's unlikely a price could be agreed on that works for both teams.

quote:

he chances of resigning Eric Gordon, are probably slim to none!

He is a RESTRICTED Free Agent. This form of free agency is specifically designed to be in favor of the team, not the player. The Hornets can and likely will match any offer made to Gordon. They offered him 4/$50 so why wouldn't they match 4/$58?

quote:

otherwise AD will leave us like CP3 if we can’t put pieces around him immediately.

Again, it's called RESTRICTED Free Agency. The rules for 1st round picks are set up so the team has most of the control and the players don't really have a choice to leave until their 3rd contract. Davis will be in NOLA for at least 6 - 7 years unless the team decides to trade him earlier. He just doesn't have any leverage until he becomes an unrestricted Free Agent on his 3rd contract.

Best move the Hornets could make, trade their pick to Charlotte. People are over valuing Davis to such a degree that even swapping one spot could net the Hornets 3 future first rounder’s (all of which would likely be lottery picks). The chances of resigning Eric Gordon, are probably slim to none! I would love to have him, but I just see it not going the way we want it. We most definitely won’t trade AD, unless we get something ridiculous like the 3 first round lottery picks, including a guaranteed future top 3. The Cavs could throw something at us too. They really wanted Kyrie Irving to play with AD. This could happen, because Dan Gilbert is a moron.

With the way I see it playing out is we draft AD, due to the whole overall change to our franchise. New owner, new team name, new colors, new arena due to millions of dollars of renovations….and new franchise player to build around. The thing is…we have to resign EG for this to work, otherwise AD will leave us like CP3 if we can’t put pieces around him immediately. The Thunder have been successful, because they built around Durant, and Westbrook. Like I said previously, I just don’t see AD as a franchise dominating leader. Look how good Dwight Howard is, and look where they are. If we don’t make any trades, and happen to keep AD, EG, and #10 pick cough Damien Lillard cough cough (hopefully pans out) then we got Ariza, Kaman, Okafor, Jack, and Landry. Over 3 years with building around this team, and an aging Lakers, Spurs team…we could be competing with the Thunder.

The number 1 pick is a rare beast, and we are very fortunate the NBA rigged it for us. WE hold the golden ticket. Last time this franchise drafted #1 was a good one in Larry Johnson. I just hope we make the right decision, and everything pans out…because we deserve it after going through Katrina!!!!
Troll. Move on.

Some hate going around on this board. Man, my fellow Hornets fans bashing me on my opinion. I think it's funny that all of you think the Hornets are now a championship caliber team? I've watch AD play all year, and I don't doubt his talent at all. He has all the intangibles, and will most definitely be a super star. I just think it's going to take more than AD, and what I "heard", and my mistake on EG being "Restricted" is that he wasn't happy here in NOLA. What happens to players when they aren't happy? They get traded. I just think it's funny that everyone has so much faith in our role players in Ariza, Okafor, Jack, and Landry. I like them, don't get me wrong...but I like the top contender's in the NBA role players better. Look how stacked the Spurs are!! They are probably one of the deepest teams I've ever seen. We lost David West, and CP3. Basically got EG, and #10 to replace them...and of course our losing season last year landed us AD. Look...I am just as big as a Hornets fan as anyone on here...and I hope I am wrong about my perception on AD ability to be a leader on the floor, and not just a great complimentary player. I just think if we could get 3 first round lottery picks for him...it could be great with some great talent in the future draft to come. I do believe Benson isn't afraid to spend money like Shinn was. This could be great in the future signings. Overall...I am sorry if I hurt most of your feelings with my opinion on something to think about. It's a great time to be a Hornets fan! I'm excited!

I've never seen you on this board before. You aren't a fellow Hornet.

Who has said that with any seriousness? No one.

And you heard this from a reputable source I'm sure. Rock solid. He MUST HATE IT HERE, because you heard it from...someone.

They've been building that team and building a culture there since like 1997.

What? Why would he need to be that?

Do not consider what I said bashing. You are the 99%, most people, including basketball reporters are surprisingly clueless on the differences between a RFA and UFA. I was just merely correcting your knowledge deficiency so you could form a new opinion that was less bashworthy.

quote:

What happens to players when they aren't happy?

When players have leverage, like Superstars heading into UNRestricted Free Agency, they can force a trade like CP3 and Dwight. You have to be more than unhappy to get traded without leverage, you have to be a team cancer (Gilbert Arenas after the gun incident) or a total knucklehead lead astray by a team cancer (JaVale McGee). Gordon does not qualify as either and at a minimum will be in NOLA 3-4 more years.

quote:

Look how stacked the Spurs are!!

Rome wasn't built in a day. You are wrong to focus on Ariza, Okafor, Jack and Landry as the team's role players. All 4 of those guys will likely not be on the team in 2 years. Instead focus on guys like Jason Smith and Gustavo Ayon who are very productive on very small contracts. Demps seems quite capable of getting role players, you just need to give him more time to do his thing.

quote:

I just think if we could get 3 first round lottery picks for him

This isn't the NFL, those types of trades just don't happen that often. The only time I can think of something in the same ball park of what you're talking about was the Chris Weber for Penny Hardaway trade in the 90s.

What did the Magic get for trading away Weber?

quote:

Traded Chris Webber to Warriors for Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway, 1996 first round pick (#11-Todd Fuller), 1998 first round pick (#13-Keon Clark), 2000 first round pick (#5-Mike Miller)

Again, Charlotte is not trading future picks without protection so your return will look something like this. You really think any of those future picks will lead to someone better than Anthony Davis when they won't be top 3 or top 5 and will be spread out over 5+ years?

quote:

I am sorry if I hurt most of your feelings

No one's feelings got hurt, internet message boards are just confrontational by nature. Things get exaggerated, when someone is wrong they are more wrong than anyone in the history of humanity.

Uh, we draft Davis. Period. End of story. Won't be hard to re-sign Gordon bc they can match any offer he gets this offseason. They will make deals to surround the core of Gordon, Davis, Ok/Kaman. Pakcage a deal to ship to Boston including that 10 pick for Rondo. Rondo/Gordon/Davis=Chip

So just because I don't type 15 replies a day my opinion is not worthy? Okkaaay. I usually just skim through some of the shite on here. I post occasionally on the LSU recruiting boards. I am a season ticket holder to the Saints/Hornets/and LSU grad. I was at the very first Hornets game against the Jazz in NOLA. I played college bball at D1 level before transferring to LSU...so please, don't tell me I don't know anything about basketball. I coached high school ball after college, and now just a die hard sports fan like most of you on here, but I just like to read/skim/troll boards periodically when I get time. I guarantee the front office is definitely open to any offers. #1 pick should be a franchise changing player. Let's hope AD changes the franchise like Duncan did for the Spurs, Durant for the Thunder, and Rose for the Bulls. Go Hornets! F@ck You lsutigernosaint
