Vice sports: Diallo.

The vast majority of players at Las Vegas Summer League can be split up into three categories. Some, dangling on the fringe, use it as a job interview. Others—i.e. high lottery picks—are here to dip their toe in the NBA experience and showcase their prodigious talent in a relatively pressure-free environment. And then there's the group that treats it like a workshop.
This third tier is filled with players who spend their time toiling away on specific areas of their game, either expanding their skill-set or better preparing for an increased role in the upcoming season—in games that actually matter.
New Orleans Pelicans forward Cheick Diallo falls into that last category, and after two games, he's quickly established himself as one of the most imposing players in Las Vegas. It's a short sample size, but Diallo is averaging 25 points and 10 rebounds per game. He's yet to miss a free throw and is shooting 55.6 percent from the floor. Few guys, if any, currently in Las Vegas share his athleticism, strength, and intensity.

He's still probably a year away which means bringing back Cunningham and maybe you give him the games/minutes Ajinca got. Ajinca played in about half the games averaging 15 MPG and that was probably more than he deserved because they had that 10 game trade showcase.

Glad he's doing well, but I won't hold my breath for him to contribute.

Agreed. I'm glad to see him pass the tests up until this point, but I'll get excited once he contributes in meaningful games.

Somewhere in the lowlands of south lafourche parish, a curious gent has disturbing thoughts about a 6'10 Malian D-league center.

I can't be the only one.

Diallo is exact type of young players, who should fill the roster. He might follow the route of Capela from Houston.
Young, with upside. Can contribute. and also is great trade asset for the future.

Coaches are already not knowing how to use cousins with ad.
Now they have a rotational player too.

Time to throw him heavily in rotation THIS YEAR! He had a development year and I was ok with it, due to his Fr. year at Kansas basically being a lost year.
However, he is 20 yrs old now, has had a year and a summer to get stronger, which by all accounts he is gaining the necessary weight to play his position (PF). Lastly, he is becoming consistent at dominating lesser talent, evidenced by his Summer league performances.
Thus, it is time for him to play and play early... Take the training wheels off bc we need him to develop as fast as he can to what he is to become. I feel he is ready to be the 1st big or 2nd big off the bench. If he's not, him playing will expedite whether or not he is a keeper or to move on. Secondly, AD and more so, Cuz, are deciding whether they can compete for a chip or not with the Pels. Diallo's development goes a long way towards showing we have the supporting cast to realistically compete.
Plus, he is on a cheap contract right now. Only means something, if we get solid production, for below market cost. If you haven't determined his value until his final contract year, then you get in an Aminu situation where there is uncertainty as to whether you should re-sign or cut bait.
Finally, most good to great players produce when played. Rookie year or not... AD started his rookie year. Now, I'm not saying Diallo is AD, but if he is what we think he should be, then he should be ready to greatly contribute NOW! It is what it is...
Play him and I'm sure he will be more than fine.

Diallo and Cook can both score off the bench. You give them the ball and they can put it in the bucket.
If he's sharing time with AD or Cousins, then his job isn't to score. What he needs to get better at is setting screens, moving without the ball, not getting in other peoples way, and DEFENSE.
In those few minutes a game AD and Cousins are on the bench, Diallo can showcase his offensive game, as can Cook. outside of that, all anyone is asking them to do is hit an open jumper, be extremely active on the boards for Diallo, and play good defense.
Problem with both of them is that they are not good defenders at all.
