He's my favorite player on the team and he's a good dude, but you can't talk about the all-star game during the pre-season and then come out flat like he did game 1 without drawing some (fair) criticism. Are people over-reacting? Sure. That's what people do. But Trey was really disappointing tonight. it is what it is.

What constitutes a "great" player?
He's a fringe top 50 NBA player. He's not an all-star or top tier NBA player, but he's arguably one of the 50th best players in the world. He's a great basketball player. I guess good instead of great would have made the post acceptable.

Trey has regressed, especially since his usage has gone up. Nothing about this specific game. There’s a happy medium there between catch and shoot Trey and “facilitator” Trey.
The guy has not really gotten better under Willie Green. He’s arguably regressed. Get a real coach in here
With many players...it is fairly easy after just a few games at the start of the season...to figure out exactly what aspect of their game they have "worked on" during the off-season. Usually, of course, it's some aspect...that they have determined to be a weakness in their overall game.
Some players just don't bother trying to improve. Some work very hard at it.

Trey is a 4th or 5th best player on a solid playoff caliber team. If he’s your 2nd or 3rd best, you’re not going to the playoffs.
It doesn’t mean he’s not a good player, but if we need him to be our #2, he’ll have nights like this often.

“He's gotta develope either a "floater" or a 15-foot pullup J”
Amen, brother! This would be an immense addition to Herb’s game. Going to the rack is great but sometimes the OPEN J or floater is a better shot than the shot at the time contested by one or two near 7 footers.

There was a play where Morant got a run out at half court one on one against Murphy. He ran straight at the rim. Murphy beat him there and just watched him lay it in. He did not contest, get in his way or anything. Just a simple lay up. He didn't even jump, just watched. I couldn't believe it..

Seems he's trying to add a side-step, one dribble 3-pt shot plus a step-in 3 where he just comes down the court & is comfortable just "stepping into" the 3-pt shot off the dribble. These would be quite useful. I don't see any evidence of working on a "floater"...but have seen a "new" 12-15' jumper.
The absolute "key" to Herb's offensive improvement...is if he can develope what we call a point guards' "auto-pilot"...where he goes all the way to the hoop...but can make that split-second decision like all the great PGs can...on whether to try & finish at the hoop (over VERY tall help defenders) or to drop the ball off to whomever the help-defender SHOULD be guarding...or...and MOST importantly...just kick the ball back outside to what should often be a wide open 3-pt shooter. (BTW..This kick-out option would be a tremendous addition to Zion's game...but I just can't see him EVER giving up very many forced shots at the hoop...it's just the way he rolls...unfortunately)
Good thing about Herb is...although he's still HUGELY raw on the offensive end...mainly because of how his game evolved when he was growing up...he's very smart & will put in the work to improve his shortcomings.
That's why I often say...I've watched this guy for many years...and I STILL have NO idea what his true ceiling...will end up being.
