I’m not trying to be a Gobert fan, but Kessler isn’t even starting and looks a bit worse than he did last year. Meanwhile Gobert will be in the running for defensive player of the year. Late round picks don’t matter as much when you’re roster is set.

The picks aren't what are absurd with me for Gobert.
It's the fact that you are paying him $41M+ for the next 3 years. No center with as many liabilities as he has should be making that much, and it severely hamstrings their organization to get better.
That team will be as good as Edwards and KAT take them. Gobert is a replaceable role player that is extremely overpaid.

Rudy is back to being dominant and the clear DPOY right now. But even with that, given all the picks and everything else they gave up and keeping that in mind too, getting a lesser but still solid defender in Kessler plus $40mil in flexibility, I'd imagine Minnesota would still love a do over there.

I still don't even know how they're going to resign McDaniels, unless they're ok going pretty deep into the tax starting next season and becoming a repeat tax offender.

And the aforementioned dilemma is why they will have to get off Naz. They will soon be the Heatles.. 3 max contracts with only a mid-level exception and ability to keep own players and go over the cap.
But once you give the mid to Jaden, Naz contract becomes an albatross to the luxury tax.
They might hold on to him this year but his value won't be higher than now. He is playing at a high level, he's slimmed down significantly, which has allowed him to be a switch Center.
Jose, Hawkins,Ryan, Trey, Naz is a fierce bench of shooters... My goodness. With just enough D from Jose, Trey and Naz to be a quality bench to the starters...

They have to get off if one of the big contracts if they want to extend McDaniels and avoid deep tax from what I can tell.
Just moving Reid doesn't get them anywhere, they'd still go over to resign McDaniels.
Also, Naz would have to be a role player. A Zion/Naz starting front court would be a huge liability defensively.

Zion/Naz= defensive liability. Yes, currently.
But to contend, Zion D has to become an asset, close to his Duke days or even Jan last year.
Remember Naz is coming off the bench for us and closing if needed. He is better than Larry. We ain't winning shite if we stick to Nance down the stretch against contenders like Milwaukee, OKC, Minny, Philly, Lakers, etc...
Nance is like Hart for us now. Doing as much as he can but undersized and Larry starting to accumulate injuries. That's slowing him down now.

Pels had the best record in the West in December last year too.
What's your point?

Isn't McDaniels already signed to an extension?

Yes.
Their salary for next season is 188M for basically 11 players.

They already have. 5 yr - 136 million

If not, even moving Reid doesn't get them where they need to be.
The only options are go deep into the tax or find a way to move off of Rudy or KAT, I don't see much of any other viable options.

Agreed. My point to the OP was that they aren't taking back salary to move off of Reid, even if they went that route (which they won't).

Naz Reid is the perfect example of someone who has been a much better pro than he was in college...
i was TOTALLY wrong about him, i thought for sure he'd flame out in the NBA, but he absolutely worked on his game, and is a great piece for any team
