You have to think like an owner.

What will get them a return on investment? A 2nd round pick? frick no. But selling it will.

Will adding a low 1st round pick do it. frick no.

Why would they want the Hornets to get appreciably better? It does nothing for them but hurt their own team.

But if they stay ostensibly the same, value is static. But with a new CBA in favor of the owners, value goes up. Perhaps by a good amount.

That's all they care about

I can buy the competitive argument.

But financially, this is a losing proposition for the other owners. That pick could have filled a roster spot for the owners for $300k. The vet minimum is more than triple that. And the average salary is more than 10 times that.

The only way a small market team is gunna win is to develop through the draft.

A million dollars? Thats peanuts brah.

We need bodies, we need to take a chance at a diamond in the rough. I dont give a shite if the odds are against us.

You answered your own question. To put money in the pockets of the owners.

And Eman, dont go off the deep end. Just become a realist.

I'm just so tired of seeing this team sell picks. I'd rather a pick wash out than pretty much giving him away and never having a shot.

I also irks me cuz you can definitively say the Hornets did nothing to improve. A million? If I had a mil in my hands, I'd be jumping for joy, but in the NBA, what are we going to do with that million we'll never technically see?

I'm pretty sure they have a plan to sell the team before any appreciable FA dollars are spent.

THAT money is not going to us. It is going to the rest of the owners in the league

Doing favors for the league that wouldn't piss on New Orleans if we were on fire.

They'd just take CP3 and move him to friggin' New York or something.

Just gets better and better.

Sounds like they had unrealistic expectations then folded when they didn't get what they wanted.

If this were a 1st i'd agree but it's mid 2nd rounder. Odds are Harrellson rides the bench in the D-league for the next few years and then is back in Kentucky in jorts. If they had passed on picking all together I wouldn't have even been that upset.

I don't buy that Jayjay, this was a move the Hornets decided they were going to make long before our pick. We picked for a team for heavens sake, that doesn't happen because suddenly your guys are gone.

One could spin this in a positive way:

Demps has been given a budget higher than we think. This gives him more wiggle room to deal with FAs within the budget, and he truly didn't think anyone would help us.

I don't believe it, but there you go.

Its not a favor. The league owns the Hornets. You think Cuban, or any other owner, wants to drop cash into helping the Hornets get better? Hell no!

Not getting a player in the 2nd round is irrelevant. He probably wouldnt have done shite anyway. Its why we sold it that matters

TIFWIW but looks like Demps says the money is going to the Hornets.

We werent going to pick harrellson numb nuts, we picked him for New York. There were options at our pick that would have addressed our scoring issues.

This is the kind of attitude that breeds losers

Why even have a second round?
