AD was trying to be Boogie. But Cousins called and set him straight.

Here's AD's full quote on his phone call from DeMarcus Cousins:

Yeah, I think a few of yal noted that he's been trying to play that point role too much.

He's a phenomenal player, but he needs to play within himself and let Niko fill the Cousins role.

Yeah between Jrue and Rondo, along with Niko's passing ability, no need for him to feel like he needs to play the point forward or run the offense. Go out there, stay aggressive, and get buckets.

Yeah that and we’ve played 3 terrible teams in a row lol. We mostly sucked last week because we played teams that are better than us

Yeah but we dominated two of three of those teams. The Nets game should have been a blow out, but Gentry got in the way. Pels teams of old would have been close to losing all three of those games. Niko is really helping this team run smooth without Boogie.

I said this in the other thread, but we played two of the hottest defenses in the league both with top tier rim protectors.

With Cousins on board, Gobert and Embiid have to stick with Boogie who can draw them away from the paint. Niko can stretch the court, but those teams can stick Favors or Saric on him and let Gobert or Embiid not get drawn away from the rim to let AD operate.

We were missing Boogie's ability to box out and occupy space which gets amplified agianst top tier centers. Even though Niko has been great rebounding, he is still a 4. We were losing the rebounding battle pretty handily in the losses. We evened it up the last 3 games and I have noticed an added effort to get after the offensive glass by Niko and AD.

I always felt like he deferred to Cousins too much to make him feel a part of the team. He has played that way all year. He needs to maintain this when Boogie is back and Boogie should defer to AD. The offense should always go through AD first.
