Its disgraceful to be called the Wizards, Nets, Clippers, Bobcats, Lakers, Jazz, etc... We are probably the only franchise other than Orlando Magic(Disney World) who have some connection to the name.

We are one of the very FEW franchises whose name actually represents or has something to do with the area. Others are 76'ers, Mavericks, Nuggets, Spurs.
Miami has heat and Phoenix has the sun. Houston has NASA so Rockets makes sense.
Yep. Forgot those. Orlando Magic too I guess....
Makes a grand total of 8 (9 when you count the Pels) that have area/city/state appropriate names

Dude is terrible. I literally change the channel if he comes on my tv or radio. I don't even wait to see what he says anymore, just make a preemptive strike to avoid hearing high volume stupidity disguised with large words.
When I first heard the Pelicans name I was a little disappointed. When I saw the logos I thought they did a great job, and after a couple of months I am completely on board with the rebrand. Hearing that Stephen arse Smith doesn't like it has reinforced that I do like it.

Haven't watched First Take since he became a regular... sad b/c I used to love that show (or should I say the 1st & 10 segment of "Cold Pizza" which became "First Take")... now it's unwatchable

Yeah most people don't realize that the Pelican is a dangerous fierce bird. It may not look ferocious, but they are.
Considering that Jazz is already a long-lost cause, Breakers was a N.O. USFL team, and Brass was a N.O. semi-pro hockey team, the only other viable name to me besides these would have been Buccaneers - which was the name of the 60's N.O. ABA team, but also too close to Tampa.

obviously b/c the Utah/former NOLA team still uses it

moved here from elsewhere... stayed for only a couple seasons before moving out... no real history in NOLA (unless you want to be like the Tulane Green Wave)

believe the name/logos are still Ray Nagin's property

Bucs would have been good for the "hardwood classics" kind of stuff... but you're right Benson wouldn't pick a name identical to that of a Saints division rival
there's also VooDoo that seemed to be in play for a while (remember he brought the VooDoo into existance) but I really doubt he'd want to pay much of anything to get that name/brand back from Newman and the AFL

Way to give legs to the story, helping to ensure he stays employed. Good job.
