the problem is "when he hits free agency"...
he will not be a FA next year unless he declines his option (the pels would have to hypnotize him for that to happen)

so unless he declines, he's on the books for $15MM and that's that. the team could then offer him an extension to start in 2016, but i think it has to be 4 years, not 3. someone correct me if i'm wrong.

if he does decline, then he is an UFA, and can sign any contract for any length

Dead money is a non issue IMO. We only have the salary slots left to add one more big piece. We have to decide if we do that in 2015 or 2016. We won't get a superstar via FA and 2015 looks like the best time to get a non star SF. If we don't stretch Gordon its MLE in 2015 and cap space in 2016. If we do stretch him it's cap space in 2015 and MLE in 2016. So basically same difference but a better SF class in 2015.

I get that. I don't know if they'll be able to get a wing target, but they are at least in the conversation.

I'm also not sure stretching the Gordon we saw this year is a slam dunk. I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in rotation wing help via MLE (even if it's a Carroll type) and seeing what happens next year.

Will be interesting to see if Davis goes for the full Rose rule max or takes a smaller % like Paul George.
