Honestly, unless we decide to dip into the tax which is something I think they will avoid at all costs, there really is a near zero chance to improve that spot from the outside.
Any salary we take on we'd have to send out at least that. Anyone we are paying enough we either wouldn't want to get rid of or isn't worth anything.
Anyone we could get cheap the other team would be very unlikely to get rid of with the shortage of bigs.
The only miniscule hope would be a really shitty team with no playoff hopes with a cheap but good backup wanting to take a load of draft picks plus say Hernangomez at the deadline.
Even then you are asking them to bank on picks over solid, cheap depth in hand.

Most teams in the league don't have a good backup 5. I'm ok with Jaxson for now.

The trade is Lonzo plus Melli for a power forward/center.
Not that I would do it -- I am also happy with Hayes.

No choice but to play Hayes. I think that's a good thing long term
Still, taking such a major project at 8 is starting to look a bit silly

Yeah I guess that's really the only saving grace. The league is so dearth on bigs that it isn't a huge factor if we have to go small at times.
But then there are some teams where Adams and Zion would have to play 35+ if we hope to get past them unless everything else is going our way.

When making this deal remember to design for the end game...to shutdown AD in the conference championship as we beat the Lakers on the way to the ship!!

i agree with this, i know we all wanna win now but we are trying to do this right. Yes it was frustrating watching the drop off from Adams to Hayes but we all knew Hayes was a long term project that we rolled the dice on, gotta give him time to grow as the season progresses.
