I agree it doesn't suck. And I also agree with other posters who talk about the back of house limitations. And I generally agree a renovation would be cheaper and less disruptive.

But I believe the biggest challenge is the lack of lower bowl seating and the excessive number of balcony seats. Those 2 challenges are almost impossible to fix in a renovation. One reason a dome reno worked is the larger number of lower and 2nd level seats with good views (and even the lower terrace seats too), and the amount of space dedicated to suites which was excessive at the time, but is now normal.

City Hall/Civil District Court would be a great site, but you'd have to have a plan for City Hall and CDC.

A lot of that could’ve been solved last year when the Freeport building was up for sale.

It’s not fancy, but it doesn’t “suck arse”… That’s a little extreme. Other arenas I’ve seen are not really functionally different.

There are a lot of things in back of house that are entirely outdated. Structurally, they can’t add more lower bowl and club seating. The last overhaul involved getting creative and closing in outdoor space to add square footage. They piggybacked off the dome HVAC system to save money.

A new arena creates more opportunities for bigger events that skip the city.

Most of the issues are cosmetic and can be fixed pretty easily. However, the biggest issue is not an easy fix. The lower bowl is too small and expanding it would almost require the arena to be gutted. If they are going to do that, they may use the opportunity to upgrade significantly for the future by investing in a new Arena.

Most of the issues aren’t cosmetic. A lot of these updates are going to be structural issues. It will come down to the wanting to spend $400m in renovations or going all in and doing things correctly with a new arena (which won’t happen because it’s a state owned building).

Why would they build something that big? No team is coming to Mississippi unless it’s G League, indoor football, minor league hockey

Y’all seem to forget when the Saints almost went to Mississippi Gulf Coast. It could happen again. If a world class casino worth billions of dollars told you we will build you a state of the art arena 90 miles east of New Orleans near our casino would you say no?
One NBA owner has already said “Yes” and gets to keep his power. Could it happen again?

Hate to be nitpicky here but that article is missing one crucial point.

Casinos are illegal in Texas…. So that cannot happen.

Get serious. The Saints were never "almost" moving to Mississippi. That was as clear an idle threat as they come. No professional NBA or NHL team is moving to Biloxi.

Times have changed. Do the San Francisco 49ers play in San Francisco? Do the New York Jets or New York Giants even play in state of NY? Do the New Orl Mets play in NY.

Don’t say it can’t happen.

They are voting on it. Likely to get enough votes. Jerry Jones already got plans to turn ATT stadium in partial casino.

After Katrina the old man was moving. Taglibue blocked the move to San Antonio . Told him to go rebuild Dome.

It’s called expanding your footprint. Saints are the Gulf Coast’s team. They want the same for the Pels.

To be fair, the G League is such a nothing league that, whether it was in Birmingham, Alaska or the Alario Center, a the Squadron isn't going to cultivate much in the way of new fans.

I agree, but it’s simply an association. A connection. The Pels play a preseason game there and I think maybe a camp for kids too.

LOL if you think Jeff Landry is just going to bend over and give the Pelicans a new arena or renovations. At most you probably get the Ten Commandments plastered around the arena.

Supposedly Landry has been more engaged than Edwards. He has a buddy who wants and wants an nhl team here too, so maybe the arena transfers to hockey after the new NBA stadium is built.

The bright side of all this is that the NBA loves new arenas. If the Pels go to NBA and say "we need a winning team to gather public support for the project" I would imagine we would start seeing things like trades and ref calls start going our way.

So, Biloxi and San Antonio are now the same and there is a major disaster affecting this?

Now you are acting like a little child who is embarrassed by being called out for making an ignorant statement.

Demo and rebuild state of the art.

NOLA is too big of a venue for entertainment to not have one of the best entertainment arena venues in the country.

eta: The Barclay's center would be a start of what i would start modeling after if i was partly in charge.
